Byron Fatland

Byron passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Villa Maria in Fargo surrounded by his family.

Byron was born on July 27, 1935, the son of Clarence and Borghild (Engh) Fatland in Fargo. He grew up in Fargo and graduated from Fargo Central High School. Byron proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1956 until his discharge in 1958. He returned to North Dakota and was united in marriage to Sylvia Stene on August 27, 1960 at East Marsh River Lutheran Church. They made their home in Billings, MT before moving back to Fargo in 1964. Byron worked for 32 years at Greyhound Bus. In 1991 he moved to Lisbon, ND where he made his home at North Dakota Veterans Home. He returned to Fargo in 2003 and has lived at Villa Maria since that time.

Byron was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church in Fargo and was also active at other churches in activities including Bible School and AWANA. He loved to sing, spend time with his family, and was a good friend to many. He also never passed up a chance to go to a Lutefisk supper or to a good corn feed.

Byron is survived by his sons, Skye (Lynn) Fatland of Appleton, WI; and Ridge (Linda) Fatland of Moorhead, MN; his grandchildren - Lucas (Elissa) Fatland, Keisa Fatland, and Amber Fatland; and his great granddaughter, Zoë. Also surviving are his two brothers, Wallace of Frazee, MN; and Roger of Lake Elsinore, CA; his specials friends, Tammy Easton of West Fargo, ND, and her children – Steven Johnson, Jenny Johnson, and Jo Johnson; cousin and friend, Darlan (Mary) Fatland of Walcott, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ronald and sister, Bonnie Jurisch; and his special friend, Jo Olmsted.

VISITATION: 5-7 PM Monday, May 20, 2013 at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo and also one hour prior to the service in the church on Tuesday

PRAYER SERVICE: 7 PM Monday at Boulger Funeral Home

FUNERAL SERVICE: 9:30 AM Tuesday at First Lutheran Church in Fargo

BURIAL: North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, ND
