Luverne B. Eid, 73, resident of Detroit Lakes, MN and Tucson, AZ, died Monday, May 20 at his lake home in Detroit Lakes.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, May 25 at 2PM in David Donehower Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Officiating will be Reverend Dave Peterson.

Luverne B. Eid, 73, resident of Detroit Lakes, MN and Tucson, AZ, died Monday, May 20 at his lake home in Detroit Lakes.

Luverne Byron Eid was born October 26, 1939 in Grafton, ND to Leonard and Ida (Fraser) Eid. He was the eldest of four children. His siblings are Gerald, Gordon and Carol. They resided in Walhalla, ND until 1948 and at that time relocated to Moorhead, MN. He attended Moorhead State Campus School graduating in 1957. On November 2, 1957 Luverne was united in marriage to Jean Knauf. Luverne and Jean had three children: Debbie, Todd and Doug. Luverne furthered his education at Concordia College of Moorhead, graduating in 1963, later enrolling at the University of Chicago receiving his MBA in 1961. Luverne moved to West Fargo, ND and became President of Great West Savings and Loan Association and also served as Mayor. On April 23, 1971, Luverne was united in marriage to Vicky Sasse. Vicky brought three children into their marriage: Kyle, Krista and Kamin. Luverne and Vicky moved to Tulsa, OK where he became Executive Director of the National Jaycees Organization. They then moved to Chicago for two years. They later moved back to Moorhead and Luverne became Vice President-Finance of Eid-Co Buildings until his retirement in 1989.

In his spare time, Luverne loved canoeing in northern Manitoba with his father and two brothers along with other family members. He was blessed to go on four canoe trips: 1959, 1974, 1976 and 1978. In 2004 and 2012, Luverne and family members flew from Detroit Lakes to Churchill to relive the natural beauty and excitement of their family canoe trips.

Luverne and Vicky were able to spend many happy years of retirement together. They lived in Detroit Lakes during the summer, spending their winters in Marble Falls, TX, Lake Havasu, AZ and Tucson, AZ. Luverne became an enthusiastic golfer. He was appreciated by many friends for organizing golf outings in Detroit Lakes, Marble Falls, TX and Lake Havasu, AZ.

This past fall, Luverne and Vicky enjoyed a cruise to Alaska and visits with his sons and families in California on their way to their Arizona home.

Luverne is survived by his wife Vicky, and five children: Todd and his wife Joyce, Doug and his wife Teresa, Kyle and his wife Lois, Krista and her husband Cliff Barth and Kamin and her husband Todd Benner along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and daughter: Debbie.
