Elroy J. Meissner, age 88, died February 17, 2013 at Heavenly Acres Assisted Living Center Tucson, AZ. A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 2, 2013 at Lysne Lutheran Church, rural Hawley at 1:00.

Elroy J. Meissner, age 88, died February 17, 2013 at Heavenly Acres Assisted Living Center Tucson, AZ. A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 2, 2013 at Lysne Lutheran Church, rural Hawley at 1:00.

Elroy was born June 27, 1924 in Millerville, MN to Erwin and Agnes Meissner. He attended school in Brandon, MN, and enlisted in the Maritine Air Corp after graduation. He served 4 years. Following his military service he moved to Fargo, ND and attended Hanson Automotive School. He married Madelyn Dauner of Hawley, MN. Elroy worked 3 years at Burns Motor Co. They then moved to their farm in rural Hawley where they raised their 6 children. In 1959 he was Clay County Outstanding Young Farmer. In 1970 Elroy and Madelyn were named Clay County Dairy Farm Family of the year. He was an avid sportsman. Elroy was active in Lysne Lutheran Church, the Hitterdal School Board, and the Hawley Golf Club. He retired in 1987 when he and Madelyn started spending more time in Tucson, AZ. He enjoyed playing cards and also became an avid Wildcat fan. His faith, companionship of his wife Madelyn, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were most important to him.

He was preceded in death by son, Paul, and grandson, Gregg. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Madelyn, 4 sons, Jim (Brenda) of Tucson, AZ, David (Kathy) of Hawley, MN, Steve (Sharon) of Fargo, ND, and John of Egan, MN, and 1 daughter, Lois (Rick) of Wiggens, CO, 11 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.
