Jacquelyn Johanson, 86, formerly of Clarissa passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2013 at Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo, North Dakota. The funeral for Jacie will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Clarissa. Burial will be held at Zion Cemetery in Clarissa.

Jacie was born April 13, 1927 in Lidgerwood, North Dakota to Jacob & Florence (Lueck) Roth. She graduated in 1945 from Wahpeton High School and from there went on to Sherwood Music School in Chicago, Illinois. She received her BME degree with a major in music education in 1948 and it was here that she met William Johanson. They were married on December 28, 1948 in Wahpeton, North Dakota. She taught in Cicero, Illinois, and after William graduated from Sherwood Music School, they moved to St. John, North Dakota and began their teaching careers as a couple. Their careers took them to Towner, North Dakota, and Lake Benton and Alberta in Minnesota finally settling in Clarissa in 1961, the place that they would call their home. Jacie continued teaching in Clarissa, Long Prairie and Eagle Bend. She retired in 1991 after 27 years of teaching in the area. After retiring, Jacie enjoyed traveling with friends and family, spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, playing her violin at all types of events, and spending time at their cabin on Otter Tail Lake. She was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran and later Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, serving on the church council, and was also a member of the National, Minnesota and Clarissa Education Associations.

Jacie is survived by her children, Linda (Craig) Schultz of Casselton, North Dakota, Martin (Gwen) Johanson of Moorhead, Robert (Kim) Johanson of St. Michael; one sister, Connie Kingsley of Fargo, 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William and her parents, Jacob and Florence.
