Vernon Donald Pranke

Vernon Donald Pranke, 89, of Fessenden died June 22, 2013 at his home.

Vernon was born June 18, 1924 in New Rockford, ND. The son of Frank and Adella Pranke, he grew up on the family farm in Bremen township. After attending elementary school in rural Bremen, Vernon graduated from Fessenden High School in 1942 and attended the Minnesota School of Agriculture in St. Paul, MN for two years.

Vernon Donald Pranke, 89, of Fessenden died June 22, 2013 at his home.

Vernon was born June 18, 1924 in New Rockford, ND. The son of Frank and Adella Pranke, he grew up on the family farm in Bremen township. After attending elementary school in rural Bremen, Vernon graduated from Fessenden High School in 1942 and attended the Minnesota School of Agriculture in St. Paul, MN for two years.

Vernon entered the U.S. Army on Feb. 15, 1945. He was discharged at Fort Sheridan, IL on June 17,1946 and then resumed farming on the family farm. He married Joyce Strand at Stony Lake Church, rural Minnewaukan, on May 23, 1948. They lived in Bremen Township for 42 years and raised four children before moving to Fessenden in 1990. During their retirement years, Vernon and Joyce enjoyed trips in their motor home visiting family and friends.

Vernon was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Bremen. He served on the boards of directors for the Farmers Union Oil Co. and Wells County Farmers Union. He was a member of the Frank Proisal American Legion Post No. 33 as commander and finance officer and served as secretary and vice president of the Wells County Historical Society. Vernon enjoyed fishing in Canada, hunting, auction sales and breakfast at the café in Fessenden.

Vernon is survived by his wife Joyce of 65 years, daughters Diane Nelson of Fessenden and Sharon Hass (Jim) of Lynnwood, WA, sons Daryl of the family farm and Kevin (Jodie) of Bemidji, MN, 8 Grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, sister, Marlys of Papillion, NE. and several nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Vernon’s life will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 27th at Trinity Lutheran Church at Bremen, ND. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 26th from 4-6pm at Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden. Following burial at Germantown Baptist cemetery rural Fessenden, there will be fellowship for family and friends at the American Legion Hall in Fessenden.
