Richard D. Anderson, 87, Mapleton, ND died on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at Bethany on 42nd, Fargo, ND.

Richard was born July 2, 1925 to Belwin C. & Florence (Schram) Anderson near Audubon, MN and received his education there. Richard served in the United States Army from 1943-1946, serving in the Northern Solomon Islands Campaign, the Southern Philippines Campaign and the Occupation of Japan during World War II. On April 30, 1949 he married Mary Arlene Judkins at Glenwood, MN. They lived in Villard, MN until 1953 when they moved to Mapleton, ND. He worked for area farmers until 1966, and then was employed at NDSU where he worked as a custodian and in buildings and grounds for 20 years.

Richard loved being outdoors, caring for his yard, garden and fishing. He was a wood carver and a member of the Red River Wood Carvers.

He is survived by two sons, Michael Anderson, Fargo, Mark (Tina) Anderson, Emerado, ND; two daughters, Janel Anderson, Mapleton, Gaylene Anderson, Minneapolis, MN, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two brothers, Allen (Mandy), Kirksville, MO, Raymond (Rose), Battle Ground, WA and a sister Adeline Leitheiser, Detroit Lakes, MN.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary; his parents; and daughter Ellen Geruel.

Memorial Service: Thursday, June 27, 2013 at 10 AM at the Larson Chapel at Bethany on 42nd, Fargo with visitation one hour prior.

Final Resting Place: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo.
