Larry Lee Monteith

Larry Lee Monteith, age 76 of Detroit Lakes, MN, died December 25, 2012 of cancer.

Larry was born to Roland and Lucille Monteith in Egeland, ND. He graduated from Fargo Central High School and attended North Dakota State University. He joined the US Army and was a proud member of the Old Guard at Fort Meyers, VA, where he performed duty at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery.

Larry Lee Monteith, age 76 of Detroit Lakes, MN, died December 25, 2012 of cancer.

Larry was born to Roland and Lucille Monteith in Egeland, ND. He graduated from Fargo Central High School and attended North Dakota State University. He joined the US Army and was a proud member of the Old Guard at Fort Meyers, VA, where he performed duty at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery.

Larry married Gloria Albrecht and they had three children: Steve (Katherine), Gilbert, AZ, Teri Lutsky (Jay), Westchester, CA, and Laura Mills (Bob), Lake Geneva, WI. A son Torre, from an earlier marriage, resides in Reno, NV.

Larry and Gloria raised their family primarily in Northbrook, IL, and eventually moved to Tampa, FL. In 2007 they returned to the Midwest, moving into their dream home on Lake Munson, near Detroit Lakes. They were happily married for 50 years.

Larry was a salesman, engineer, and manufacturer of automotive equipment that was distributed worldwide. Earlier in life, he enjoyed hunting and golf, and in his later years spent time making furniture and remodeling his home. Larry was a private pilot and loved to fly.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his beautiful wife Gloria, who passed in 2009.

Larry is survived by his brothers Jerry (Margaret), Benzonia, MI, Dean, Lake Havasu City, AZ, and sister Jeanne Lindsay (Bruce), Detroit Lakes, MN. He is also survived by his children, grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandpa, and uncle, and will be missed dearly.

Burial with military honors will be at Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, on Friday, July 12th at 10:30 AM. Immediately following the ceremony, Larry's life will be celebrated at an open house at Jeanne and Bruce Lindsay's home-13059 West Lake Sallie Drive, Detroit Lakes. All are welcome.
