Joe Roden, 78, Fargo, ND died on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Sanford Health Palliative Care, Fargo.

Joseph W. Roden was born on July 17, 1934 in Fargo to Lloyd and Janet (McKinnon) Roden. He grew up on the family farm near Casselton, ND and graduated from Lincoln High School in Casselton. He attended UND for two years. During his time there, he played for the university's football team. Joe married Marjean Hill on August 4, 1954 at First United Methodist Church in Fargo. He served in the US Army for two years. Part of that time was spent serving in Germany, and his family accompanied him there as well. They returned to the Casselton area where they farmed for many years. In 1996, Joe and Marjean retired to Fargo and began spending their winters in Arizona.

Joe was active in the Masons, and also served on several boards including the local township, elevator and Maple River Golf Course. He was an active member of his church, where he served on the church council and sang in the choir. Joe enjoyed playing golf and being a sports fan, along with time spent with the grandchildren. He was very social and loved visiting with people.

He is survived by his wife, Marjean, Fargo; four children, Jane (Mark) Kingsley, West Fargo, Nancy (Gary) Grove, Grand Forks, ND, Kathy (Randy) Vining, Fargo and Tom (Jill) Roden, Casselton; nine grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeff) Anderson, Brett and Brian (Dana) Kingsley, Jared (Molly), Jacob and Zachary Grove, and Andrew, Alex and Adam Roden; three great grandchildren, Nathan and Joseph Anderson, and Charlotte Grove.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation: Thursday, July 11, 2013 from 5 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo.

Memorial Service: Friday at 10:30 AM at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Casselton.

Final Resting Place: Casselton Cemetery.
