Milt Petersen, 87, Casselton, ND, formerly Hunter, ND, died on Friday, July 12, 2013 at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND.

Milton J. Petersen was born July 26, 1925 at Erie, ND to John and Kate (Stroeh) Petersen. He grew up and attended school at Erie. Milt married Grace Thompson June 24, 1950. They made their home near Ayr, ND where they farmed for several years. In 1968, he purchased a road maintainer and started Petersen Construction. He later purchased a backhoe and was joined by his sons. He was still out blading roads in his early 80’s. The family made their home in Hunter, ND until recently moving to Casselton.

Milt enjoyed family activities and spending time with the grandchildren. Coffee at the Hunter Café was also a top priority.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Grace; four children, Susan (Jerry) Schritz, Menomonee Falls, WI, Steve (Dawn) Petersen, Scott (Carrie) Petersen and Shari (Todd) Viken, all Hunter; 13 grandchildren, Jared Schritz, Tyler Schritz, Leigha Trnka, John Petersen, Nicole (Jeremy) Hoesel, Cody Petersen, Ryan Petersen, Kristina (Kasey) Kyllo, Ben Olson, Brittany Olson, Heather Viken, Olivia Viken and Jack Viken; 4 great grandchildren, Jocelyn and Kaydence Trnka, Kinsley and Parker Hoesel; and twin sister, Mildred Barr, Colorado Springs, CO.

Milt was preceded in death by his parents, a son, two brothers and a sister.

Visitation: Tuesday, July 16, 2013 from 6 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at West Funeral Home, Casselton.

Funeral: Wednesday at 10:30 AM at Arthur United Methodist Church, Arthur.

Burial: Erie (ND) Cemetery.
