Virgil Warner

Virgil Warner, 86, rural Fingal, ND died Tuesday July 16, 2013 at Mercy Hospital, Valley City, ND.

Virgil was born July 20, 1926 on a farm home in Clifton Township, Cass County, ND to Rosswell and Mabel (Bayliss) Warner, the fourth of seven children. He attended country school in Clifton Township and several years in Lucca Public School, Barnes County, ND. At age 17 he became a full time farmer and the provider for the family.

Virgil Warner, 86, rural Fingal, ND died Tuesday July 16, 2013 at Mercy Hospital, Valley City, ND.

Virgil was born July 20, 1926 on a farm home in Clifton Township, Cass County, ND to Rosswell and Mabel (Bayliss) Warner, the fourth of seven children. He attended country school in Clifton Township and several years in Lucca Public School, Barnes County, ND. At age 17 he became a full time farmer and the provider for the family.

Virgil farmed 41 years, enjoying the animals, the field work, the machinery and fixing things. He grew up farming with horses and kept a team of two for winter chores for many years. He was proud to finally own his Grandfather William Bayliss' farmstead and land where he continued to live after retirement.

Virgil and Joyce Utke were married March 1948 in Fargo, ND. They were farming partners for 33 years until Joyce' death in December 1981. They were respected as being good neighbors.

Virgil was a 57 year member of the Valley City Eagles where he went dancing. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Enderlin, ND.

Survivors are special friend and dancing partner Luverne Johnson and her loving family; two daughters VirLyn (Gordon) Hoff, Valley City, ND and Rebecca (Dennis) Lemna, Enderlin, ND; one sister Ilene (Bill) Pendergraft, Youngstown, FL; 6 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant son, grandson, two brothers John and Delano, three sisters Violet, Vera, and Verna and other loved ones.

Service will be 2 pm Monday, July 22 at First United Methodist Church, Enderlin, ND.

Burial will be in Enderlin Cemetery, Enderlin, ND.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 21 from 5-7 at Armstrong Funeral Home in Enderlin, ND.
