Mavis Reierson of Fargo died at Edgewood Vista in Fargo, ND on August 13, 2013.

Mavis was born to CK (Eddie) and Edna (Johnson) Butts in Maddock, ND on August 14, 1924 as the oldest of 6 children. Mavis graduated from Leeds High School. She attended Business School before working at medical clinics and county courthouses in Hillsboro and Devils Lake. Mavis married Robert “Bud” Reierson on October 18, 1945 in Devils Lake. They had 4 children and moved to Tower City, ND in 1962. Mavis and Bud ran the Tower City Truck Stop and the Tower City Motel where she assisted with the bookkeeping and many other tasks that the businesses required.

Mavis was proud of being a lifelong North Dakota resident where she was a Cub Scout leader, active in leading Homemakers, Bible study, church women’s groups and was a Sunday school teacher. She loved crocheting and due to her handiwork, many decorations were made for St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Tree for her favorite holiday, Christmas. She was always giving to others and loved to have people over for dinners. Mavis was an Arizona snowbird where she became an accomplished and prolific painter. She also spent a large amount of time at the family cabin on Lake Ashtabula. Mavis was an amazing woman who traveled to several other countries, taught her kids how to camp and was always looking forward.

The family of Mavis would like to thank the staff of Edgewood Vista and Hospice of the Red River Valley for their compassionate care. Memorials preferred to the Northern Lights Council of the Boy Scouts of America, 4200 19th Ave S., Fargo ND 58103.

Mavis was preceded in death by her parents, brother Marvin Butts, and husbands; Robert Reierson, who passed away in 1979, Lyle Cross who passed away in 1992 and Orris Forde who passed away in 2010.

She is survived by her four children and their families; children; Robert and Lana Reierson, Tower City, ND, Gail Reierson and Lynn Wolff, Fargo, ND, Kent and Lois Reierson, Williston, ND, Lee and Diane Reierson, Fargo, ND, grandchildren; Keith (Shawna), Kimberly, Nathan, Kimberly (David), Samuel, Sarah (Peter), Rachel, Joseph, Nancy, Jacob (Lisa) and Sara, 6 great-grandchildren, siblings; Bud (Donna) Butts, Joan Neirby, Duane (Barbara) Butts and Erlys Nordberg.

There will be a prayer service on Thursday, August 15, 2013 at 7:00 P.M. at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo with visitation starting at 5:00 P.M.

There will be a funeral service on Friday, August 16, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John Lutheran Church, 1710 5th St. S., Fargo, ND.
