Carl Martin Bjugstad

Carl Martin Bjugstad was born in Fargo, ND to Carl and Anna (Schultz) Bjugstad of Sheldon, ND on December 9, 1948. He died on August 14 near Litchville, ND at the age of 64 in the course of performing his professional calling.

Carl, better known as Marty, resided in Sheldon ND all of his life. He graduated from Sheldon High School. He also spent time in the US Navy stationed aboard the USS Tulare. Following his discharge he worked for Jalbert Oil. He later purchased and operated the company as Marty's Bulk Service. Starting in 1994 he traveled extensively as a professional driver employed by E. W. Wylie Corporation of Fargo, ND. He won many safety awards, traveling 2,000,000 miles accident free since 1994. He competed in the ND Motor Carrier Association's Professional Driving Competitions, winning many trophies including 1st place and grand champion in 2010. He traveled to Columbus OH to compete in the National Competition that same year. Driving truck was a passion for him.

As a member of the Sheldon Community he was active in the Enderlin/Sheldon Rural Fire Department. He also participated in the Sheldon Lions Club, American Legion, and spent many years as a member of the Sheldon City Council as councilman and Mayor.

He married Carole Koppinger in 1973 and they had three sons: Chris (Heidi) of Maple Grove MN, Brian (fiancée Erin Huus and her daughter Sydney) of Fargo ND and Eric (Casey) of West Fargo. He also had four grandchildren: Braeden, Mya, Wyatt and Sawyer.

He is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren, brother, Charles (Arla) of Lisbon ND, Sisters Josie Corn of Page AZ, Arlene Froemke of Lisbon ND, Herma Redetzke of Edgemont, SD, Mother-in-law: Sylvia Koppinger of New England, ND and sister-in-law: Jeanette Bjugstad of Rapid City, SD, Brothers - in -Law Jerry (LaVerne) Koppinger of Dickinson ND, Dan Koppinger of San Diego CA, Al Koppinger(Cindy) of Dickinson ND, Howard Koppinger of Sidney MT, Tim (Janet) Koppinger of Fargo ND, Sisters - in - Law Kathy Koppinger of Union City NJ, Barb (AJ) Olson of Monticello MN and Laura Koppinger of Chandler AZ.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 at Armstrong Funeral Home in Enderlin. The funeral will be Wednesday at 10:30 at Our Lady of the Scapular Catholic Church in Sheldon with burial at ND Veterans Cemetery in Mandan.
