Alden (Al) Palmer

Alden (Al) Olaf Palmer, 84, Fargo, ND, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 in Sanford Health, Fargo, surrounded by his family.

Al was born on June 16, 1929 in Fargo, ND, to Charles and Emelie (Hoff) Palmer. He spent his formidable years and graduated from high school in Casselton, ND. In 1947, he started work at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as a lineman and returned after the Korean War and after many positions including PBX installer he fully retiring in 1983. He also started his own business moonlighting in heating and air conditioning and communications known by many as Al’s Electronics where he served commercial and residential customers until 2010 when he left for full retirement.

Alden (Al) Olaf Palmer, 84, Fargo, ND, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 in Sanford Health, Fargo, surrounded by his family.

Al was born on June 16, 1929 in Fargo, ND, to Charles and Emelie (Hoff) Palmer. He spent his formidable years and graduated from high school in Casselton, ND. In 1947, he started work at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as a lineman and returned after the Korean War and after many positions including PBX installer he fully retiring in 1983. He also started his own business moonlighting in heating and air conditioning and communications known by many as Al’s Electronics where he served commercial and residential customers until 2010 when he left for full retirement.

He was drafted into the US Army in 1951 and served two years active duty in Korea in the Korean War in the 1169th Engineering Corp where he earned two Bronze Stars. He also served in the active reserves for three years following his return stateside. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in the US Army in December 1956.

He held memberships in many local and state fraternal organizations including the Loyal Order of the Moose, the Elks, the Mason and the Shriners. He also was a member of the Military Order of the Cooties, AMVETs, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He held numerous offices at the local and state level for the VFW Post 762 and the Military Order of the Cooties. He volunteered for many organizations and events including the Red River Valley Fair Board and the VFW.

He is survived by his loving wife, Terry Larson; his son, Richard (Elsie) Palmer of Orange, CA; step sons David Larson of Tucson, AZ, Tim Larson of Fargo, ND, and Jeff (Robin) Larson of St. Paul, MN; his granddaughter, Allison Palmer of Orange, CA; step grand children, Rachael Anderson of Tucson, AZ, Emma, Abby and Owen Larson of St. Paul, MN; his siblings Mae Malouf of Sequim, WA and Charles (Dot) Palmer of Whittier, CA and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Ida (Van Horrick), Hazel (Long), Lola (Ward) and Lizzie and brothers Roy, Robert, and Lyle and first wife Betty (Hull).

Memorial Service: Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 10 AM in the Boulger Funeral Home Chapel, Fargo.
