Eugene D. Jindra, 89, of Park Rapids, Minnesota passed away on September 10, 2013 at Heritage Manor Living Center in Park Rapids. He was born May 8, 1924 in Onamia, Minnesota to James and Gladys (Ablard) Jindra. Gene served his country in the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater in WWII from 1942 until 1945. He married Isabelle Klein in Onamia in 1952. For the next thirty years Gene had a career as a Minnesota State Trooper, attending school for the state patrol in 1952 and beginning his tenure in Walker, Minnesota, followed by Brainerd and then as the first state trooper stationed in Park Rapids. Gene worked as a Hubbard County deputy until retiring in 1990.

He loved hunting, fishing and trapping in younger years and sports of all varieties from youth to professional. He was fond of yellow roses and bagpipe music. Gene was so proud of his grandchildren’s endeavors; their gifts for the arts and music, photography and drawing; their love of hockey and baseball.

Gene was a parishioner at St. Peter the Apostle Church in Park Rapids, Minnesota Peace Officers, NRA, American Legion Post 212 and Star of the North Marine Detachment.

Following retirement Gene made three trips that fulfilled lifelong wishes: He attended the Goodwill Summer games in 1990 in Washington State, The Cheyenne Frontier Days and Rodeo in 1997 and he went halibut fishing in Alaska in 2003. He also attended the Frozen Four National Tournament in Washington, D.C., in 2009, at the encouragement of his friends Dave and Sandy. While there he visited the WWII Memorial.

Gene was preceded in death by his wife Isabelle in 1988, his parents, brothers: George and Ivan and son Dean August 23, 2013.

He is survived by sons: Kevin (Marie) Jindra of Elk River, Minnesota, Hugh Jindra of Park Rapids, Joel Jindra of Park Rapids, daughters; Mary (Dave) Lehrke of Park Rapids, Julie (Scott) Delaney of West Fargo, North Dakota, grandsons: Derek, Tyler, Zach, Billy, granddaughters: Allie, Bobbie, Roni, Patty, great-grandson Denver, sister Mille, 2 sisters-in-law, one brother-in law and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass for Eugene Jindra will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at St. Peter the Apostle Church in Park Rapids. Interment will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services at the church and on Friday evening from 5:00 until 7:00p.m. at Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids.
