Pearl G. Flem, 98, of Moorhead, died peacefully Sunday, September 15, 2013, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo.

Pearl Debing was born on April 15, 1915, in McVille, ND, to Ragna (Rude) and Jacob Debing. She moved to Lakota, ND, as a child, where she graduated from high school as valedictorian of her class.

On September 9, 1932, she married James Flem in Devils Lake, ND. They lived in Lakota, where James was a rural mail carrier, and in Fargo, where he worked as a railway mail clerk. During this time Pearl was a homemaker and raised their family. They also had a cabin on Pelican Lake, and moved there to live year around for a time. They built and ran Rolling Hills Golf Course near Pelican Rapids, MN, for many years. Pearl also enjoyed volunteering, and after moving back to the Fargo area she worked in the gift shop at St. John’s Hospital for 19 years.

In her younger years, Pearl loved to dance; her favorites were the fox trot and the waltz. She also enjoyed flower gardening and playing cards, and loved to read. But above all else, she loved her family and devoted her life to them. Her best times were spent at the lake and holidays—her favorite was Christmas.

She was a wonderful, caring person, and is dearly loved by her family. She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James; two sisters and three brothers; a daughter, Janice; a daughter-in-law, Geraldine; and a great-grandson, Landon.

She is survived by four children: Gary Flem of Fargo; Marilyn (Gerry) Frazier of Moorhead; Cyril (Carol) Flem of Pelican Rapids; Norma (Les) Perry of Detroit Lakes; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 5-7 p.m., with a prayer service to follow, at West Funeral Home in West Fargo. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at West Funeral Home. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fargo.
