Thomas J. Sinner, 84, of Casselton, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2013 surrounded by his loving family at the Palliative Care Unit of Sanford Health in Fargo.

Thomas was born on December 31, 1928 in the Sinner family farmhouse in Harmony Township near Casselton, ND. He attended school in Casselton, Sacred Heart Elementary in Fargo, St. John’s Prep School and St. John’s University in Collegeville, MN. He married Lois AuBuchon on June 13, 1953 at Immaculate Conception Church in Elmhurst, IL and served with the Air National Guard Unit during the Korean Conflict.

Thomas was born on December 31, 1928 in the Sinner family farmhouse in Harmony Township near Casselton, ND. He attended school in Casselton, Sacred Heart Elementary in Fargo, St. John’s Prep School and St. John’s University in Collegeville, MN. He married Lois AuBuchon on June 13, 1953 at Immaculate Conception Church in Elmhurst, IL and served with the Air National Guard Unit during the Korean Conflict.

Tom was an active member of St. Leo’s Parish in Casselton, serving as Lector, Eucharistic minister, religious education teacher, and on Parish Council. He was also a member of the first Diocesan Bishop’s Council in Fargo.

Tom was a member of the original Board of Directors of American Crystal Sugar when the Red River Valley Sugarbeet Growers Association purchased the company. He served on the Board of North Dakota ARC during litigation to de-institutionalize housing for the developmentally disabled. He also served as board member for Southeast Human Services.

At St. John’s University Tom served on the Board of Regents and the Board of the School of Theology. He was also a Perpetual Associate with Presentation Sisters in Fargo.

Tom loved Lois – the great love of his life -- and his seven children and their families; his parents, brother and sisters; his beloved cousins, his many good friends, the Benedictine Tradition, and the Farm.

Tom enjoyed Garrison Keillor and A Prairie Home Companion, history and philosophy, bridge club, solitaire, Manhattans and Luciano Pavarotti. He enjoyed many New Year’s Eve birthday parties at the farm, Johnnie football games, Florida in the winter, crossword puzzles, and 52 years of summer family vacations at Long Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Bertha Sinner and his siblings, Mary Jane Gabardi, Patricia Sinner, JoAnne Sinner and David Sinner, and his infant daughters Mary Grace, Ellen Mary and Maureen Mary.

Tom is survived by his wife, Lois, of Casselton; children, Tom (Jan) Sinner, Jr. of Casselton, Christopher Sinner of Casselton, Terry Sinner of Sauk Rapids, MN, Patty (Dale) Neuschwander of St. Joseph, MN, Nick (Christine) Sinner of Fargo, Jody (Lester) Hensley of Westborough, MA, Sharon (Mark) Hemann of Chanhassen, MN; 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, consider donations to the Sisters of the Presentation, Fargo, ND; or Friendship, Inc., Fargo, ND.

Visitation: Thursday, October 3 from 5-7 pm at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Casselton and also one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Prayer Service: Thursday at 7:00 pm at St. Leo’s Catholic Church.

Funeral Mass: Friday, October 4 at 11:00 am at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Casselton.

Interment: St. Leo’s Cemetery, Casselton.
