Willie Germolus

Willie Germolus, 92, Ada, MN, died Sunday, September 29, 2013, at Benedictine Care Community of Ada.

Willie's roots ran deep into the soil of Norman County. He was born on April 12, 1921, to August and Amalie (Kurpjuweit) Germolus of Borup, Minnesota. He graduated from Borup High School and started farming with his father and brothers, working the land his great grandfather homesteaded in the 1880s. Willie was united in marriage to Goldie Diana Lakeman in Borup, on June 14, 1949. They lived on the Germolus family farm for 49 years together before moving to Ada in 1998. He entered Bridges/Benedictine Care Community in July 2010.

Willie's roots ran deep into the soil of Norman County. He was born on April 12, 1921, to August and Amalie (Kurpjuweit) Germolus of Borup, Minnesota. He graduated from Borup High School and started farming with his father and brothers, working the land his great grandfather homesteaded in the 1880s. He entered Bridges/Benedictine Care Community in July 2010.

Willie gave more to the world than he took from it. He believed in farming as an honest and honorable occupation that imparted essential values to his family. He believed in contributing to his community. He was a lifelong member of Winchester Lutheran Church and served on the church council. He was involved in the Ada Toastmasters and Borup Lion's club. He served many years on the Minnesota Farm Security Board and looked forward to his trips to St. Paul.

Willie possessed an amiable good nature and sense of humor. He loved to socialize, play cards and tell jokes, and made friends wherever he went. He and Goldie traveled throughout Europe and Russia on a People to People tour in 1981, and enjoyed a cruise to Alaska in 1993. Willie also loved fishing and took several trips to Canada, California and Oregon to fish with family and friends.

Willie is survived by three sons, John (Colleen), Borup, MN, Nathan (Beth) Hawley, MN, Paul (Allison), Bismarck, ND; two daughters, Deborah (Robert) Weng, Richville, MN, Rebecca Germolus (David Boutacoff), Santa Rosa, CA; eleven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Goldie; his parents; four brothers, Gustav, Albert, Emil, and Paul; four sisters, Edna Gabriel, Clara Schmidt, Emma Krueger, and Lillian Schulz; and his great granddaughter, Brooklyne.

Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 5, 2013, at Winchester Lutheran Church, Borup, MN.

Visitation: Friday from 5 to 7PM with a prayer service at 6:30PM all at the church.

Burial: Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada, MN.
