Gerald Wagner

Age 83, of Roseville, MN. Passed away on October 9, 2013. Gerald was born January 13, 1930 in Fredonia, ND. He grew up on a North Dakota farm, was educated in rural ND elementary schools, graduated from Monango High School, received a BS from NDSU, an MS from Colorado State University and a PhD from the University of Minnesota. He and Audrey Newcomb were married June 26, 1955 in Minnewaukan, ND. Gerald taught Vocational Agriculture in Maddock, ND from 1954–1970. The family moved to Roseville, MN in 1970. He worked for the U of M Extension Service from 1970 to 1998 and retired as Associate Professor Emeritus. He traveled extensively, conducted numerous dairy and beef tours in the US, led 17 agricultural tours to Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, and led 8 tours to Europe. Gerald supervised the FFA Children’s Barnyard at the MN State Fair for many years. Gerald was a longtime member of Roseville Lutheran Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge since 1958, and a member of the Scottish Rite and Shrine for several years. He was Master of Evergreen Masonic Lodge, Minnewauken, ND 1967 and Master of Tusler Summit Lodge, Roseville MN 1985. He had a great love of sports, and especially loved the Gophers, holding season tickets until he was no longer physically able to attend. Survivors include his wife, Audrey; children, Jim (Sally), Mary Wagner (Dan Crouch), Kathy (Paul) Thiegs, and Ann (David) Wasson; 16 grandchildren; siblings, Neil (Lonnie), Jean (Jim) Key, Fred (Marcia) and Carol (Lee) DeForest. Preceded in death by siblings, Duane and little sister, Mary Ann. Visitation 4-7PM Tuesday, October 15 with a Masonic Service at 7PM at HOLCOMB-HENRY-BOOM-PURCELL, 515 Hwy 96 W. at Mackubin, Shoreview (651.482.7606). Funeral service 12 Noon Wednesday, October 16 (visitation begins at 11AM) at ROSEVILLE LUTHERAN, 1215 Roselawn Ave., Roseville, MN. Interment Roselawn Cemetery. Memorials preferred to the church or Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
