Eugene (Gene) David Dooley, 83, of Wheatland, ND, died peacefully on Thursday, October, 10, 2013, at Bethany Homes, Fargo, after a courageous fight with a terminal illness.

Gene was born December 17, 1929, near Windsor, ND, to Frank and Julia (Kensok) Dooley. He attended grade school in Windsor, 8th grade at the Gill School near Wheatland and High School in Casselton, ND. From 1950-52, he served in the US Air Force during the time of the Korean War. He attended Dakota Business College in Fargo. He farmed with his Dad and brother, Jim, worked at Peterson’s Grocery Store, was a mail carrier for the US Postal Office in Fargo, and worked for Doughboy Feed in Casselton and the Agronomy Seed Farms in Fargo during the winter months.

On February, 13, 1956, Gene married the love of his life, Theresa Muscha, at St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church in Harvey, ND. They lived and farmed in the Wheatland area for many years while raising their eight children.

Gene’s passion was farming. Before and after retirement, he worked for various companies, including the ASCS office in Fargo, Emco (Western) Products in Casselton, and Camas Sand and Gravel in Embden. He also helped out various neighbors during harvest.

Gene was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic minister, was a member of the CCD board, Knights of Columbus and Catholic Order of Foresters. He was a charter member of the Chaffee Lions Club, Chaffee School Board, PTA and Casselton Farmers Union Board.

Gene loved being with his family, sharing stories and telling jokes. He was blessed with the “Gift of gab.” His hobbies included hunting, dancing (polka and waltz), farming, gardening and yard work, welding, and reading “Louis L’Amour” books.

Gene is survived by his wife, Theresa, of Wheatland, ND; his children, Becky Dooley( Jan Anderson), Cloquet, MN, Brian (Beth) Dooley, Spiritwood, ND, Bruce (Kathy) Dooley, Garden City, KS, Don (Janie) Dooley, Wright, WY, Darla (Keith) Hennen, Borup, MN, Joe (Kari) Dooley, Wheatland, ND, Steve Dooley, Casselton, ND, and Rob (Perin) Dooley, Baldwin, WI. He also is survived by his sisters, Margaret Baumler, Casselton, ND, Catherine (Lee) McMaines, Fargo, ND, sister-in-law, Marie Dooley, Casselton, ND; 23 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Julia, brother, Jim Dooley, brother-in-law, Clarence Baumler, and cousin, Rolly McComb.

There will be a Prayer Service at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Casselton, ND at 7:00 p.m. Sunday with visitation in the Spirit and Life Center from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday. The funeral will be at St. Leo’s at 11:00 a.m. Monday with burial at St. Leo’s Cemetery, Casselton.
