Mary Rose Laliberte

Mary Rose Laliberte, 92, Fargo, passed away at Rosewood on Broadway on Wednesday, October 9, 2013.

Mary was born on March 23, 1921 to Anton and Magdalena (Ginsterblum) Heimerman in Stacyville, IA, where she grew up and graduated from high school. Mary met Leness G. Laliberte in Fargo while he was on leave from service during World War II. They were married in Stacyville on October 9, 1945. The two moved to the Army Air Force Base at Yuma, AZ, where they lived until returning to Fargo in 1946. She passed away on their 68th wedding anniversary.

Mary was born on March 23, 1921 to Anton and Magdalena (Ginsterblum) Heimerman in Stacyville, IA, where she grew up and graduated from high school. Mary met Leness G. Laliberte in Fargo while he was on leave from service during World War II. They were married in Stacyville on October 9, 1945. The two moved to the Army Air Force Base at Yuma, AZ, where they lived until returning to Fargo in 1946. She passed away on their 68th wedding anniversary.

Mary and Leness were charter members of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fargo. She loved music and served as organist at several Fargo parishes, including St. Mary’s Cathedral, St. Anthony of Padua Church (1952 - 1974) and Nativity Catholic Church (1974 - present).

Her baby grand piano was her first major purchase and she used it to bring music and joy to the family household. She also taught 5th grade religious education at St. Anthony’s, was a member of the Altar Society and active with Birthright. Mary enjoyed her bridge club and Orestes Brownson Study Club.

Summers were spent on Cotton Lake, MN where Mary and Leness enjoyed sailing and the quiet beauty of nature. In later life they occasionally spent winter weeks with Mary’s brothers and sisters in Sun City, AZ.

Mary was a wise and devoted mother to her seven surviving children: Msgr. Robert Laliberte, Fargo; Paul (Chris) Laliberte, Taipei, Taiwan; Andrea (William) Lewis, Fargo; George (Veronica)

Laliberte, Topeka, KS; Lisa Laliberte, Fargo; Richard (Rachelle) Laliberte, Macungie, PA; Michael Laliberte, Fargo. She is also survived by brother, Quentin (Sally) Heimerman, Stillwater, MN; sister, Ruth (Byron) Spear, Albert Lea, MN; 8 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.

There will be a prayer service at Boulger Funeral Home at 7:00 p.m. Monday with a visitation beginning at 5:00 p.m. The funeral will be at Nativity Catholic Church at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at Holy Cross North Cemetery.

Memorials are requested to be directed to Birthright, JPII Catholic Schools and Rosewood on Broadway.
