William John Martin

William John Martin, 77, Lisbon, formerly of Cathay, passed away Monday, November 18, 2013 at the Parkside Lutheran Nursing Home in Lisbon.

Bill and his twin brother, Fred, were born October 17, 1936 in Cathay to John and Laura (Seibold) Martin. He graduated from Cathay High School and served in the United States Army in Korea from 1961 to 1963.

William John Martin, 77, Lisbon, formerly of Cathay, passed away Monday, November 18, 2013 at the Parkside Lutheran Nursing Home in Lisbon.

Bill and his twin brother, Fred, were born October 17, 1936 in Cathay to John and Laura (Seibold) Martin. He graduated from Cathay High School and served in the United States Army in Korea from 1961 to 1963.

Bill married Sharon Buchwitz in Harvey on July 3, 1964. They lived in several different communities in North Dakota throughout Bill's career as a grain elevator manager. Bill retired in 2003 and they moved to Fargo where he worked as a custodian at NDSU. After Sharon passed away in 2008, Bill moved to the North Dakota Veterans Home in Lisbon where he enjoyed playing cards, visiting with his friends at the Veterans Home, and spending time with his twin brother, Fred and his family. Bill loved to fish and play cards.

He is survived by his children: Billie Jo Martin of New Rockford, Cindy Martin of Jamestown, Christy Martin of Fargo, John (Judy) Martin of Bismarck, Tana Martin of Fargo, and Justin (Heather) Martin of Carrington; his two grandsons, Gavin and Tucker Zink of Carrington; two brothers, Orville of Pensacola, FL and Fred of Lisbon; and four sisters, Ardella Ockert of New Rockford, Helen Aaker-Wolf of Mandan, Linda Anderson of New Rockford and Bev Hafner of Sykeston; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Sharon; his parents, John and Laura Martin; six brothers, Gilbert, Chester, Wesley, Leonard, Jimmy and Merlin; and two sisters, Shirley Truedson and Janice Martin.

His funeral will be held Sunday, November 24, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the North Dakota Veterans Home in Lisbon. Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan. Arrangements with Nelson Funeral Home of Fessenden.
