Phyllis Mae (Ross) Kyllo

Phyllis Mae (Ross) Kyllo, of Sioux Falls, died peacefully Friday, December 06, 2013 with her daughters by her side at Sanford USD Medical Center ICU. She was our loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great friend. She will be missed for the kindness and the love she bestowed to her family and everyone she came in contact with. The twinkle in her eyes and her smile shined bright like a brilliant sunrise.

Phyllis was born in Elbowoods, ND in 1933 to Louise Inkster and Phillip Ross Sr. She attended school in Nishu, ND, until the 8th grade. She loved spending time with her family and helping with daily chores and baking. She looked forward to cooking at the Whitecalfe Ranch during branding time with her son, Frank Whitecalfe.

She moved to Fargo, ND, and was united in marriage to Gordon Kyllo on February 11th, 1956 in Moorhead, MN. Phyllis worked at Fanny Farmer Candy as a manager for 7 years, and then became head seamstress at the Silver Line Boat factory for 14 years. In 1977 she moved to Pierre, SD, to be closer to her mother. There she worked as the kitchen supervisor at the Pierre Indian Learning Center for 18 years. She enjoyed fishing at the Oahe Dam. Boy O’ Boy could she reel them in!! In 1995 she retired and moved to Sioux Falls to be closer to her daughters.

She was grateful to have shared her life with her son, Frank Whitecalfe, Garrison, ND; daughters, Carol (Doug) Seela, Dayton, IA, and Jody Kyllo, Sioux Falls.

Phyllis is welcomed home by her parents, Phillip and Louise; husband, Gordon; sisters, Becky and Mary Alice; five brothers, Bimbo, Oscar, Chucky, Skeezix and Richard.

Her family expresses gratitude for her life and for your thoughts and prayers. We were all blessed to have her in our lives.

Celebration of her life services will be held in May (date to Follow) at Trinity Lutheran Church, Tea, SD and also June 6 (her birthday) in White Shield, ND at Whitecalfe Family Cemetery.
