Helen Hagen

Helen Hagen, 91, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2013, surrounded by her family and the caring staff on second floor at Rosewood on Broadway in Fargo and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Helen Luella Clara Sonsteng was born on February 27, 1922 in Wolf Pointe, MT, the daughter of Arnold and Clara (Huseby) Sonsteng. Her mother passed away three days after she was born. Helen was raised by her great aunt, Helene Christiansen Hafstad in the Rollag, MN area. She received her schooling at District 14 country school near Rollag. In her early years, Helen worked in the Pelican Rapids area. Helen was united in marriage to Albin Hagen on June 1, 1941. They made their home in Moorhead for many years where they raised their family. There was always a little one in her lap, and treats in the cupboard. Helen also worked outside the home at de Lendrecies in Fargo, Dakota Hospital, Concordia Food Service, and for many years worked well into her 80’s with her family at FM Flooring. Her most favorite job was being mom - spending time with her children, grandchildren, and most recently her great grandchildren. She enjoyed all of her grandkids and great-grandkids, rocking and singing or yodeling to them, and always had an abundant supply of cookies.
