Robert J. “Nooks” Kapaun

Robert J. “Nooks” Kapaun, 91 of Casselton, ND, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Essentia Health in Fargo.

Robert was born on September 2, 1922 in Casselton to Joseph and Elizabeth (Hager) Kapaun. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Casselton in 1941 and served in the US Navy from 1941-1945 on the USS Phelps Destroyer. He married Lorraine Nelson on January 29, 1943 in Casselton. After his discharge from the military, he worked in the heating and air conditioning business and started Cass County Heating and Air Conditioning which he ran for 45+ years.

Robert J. “Nooks” Kapaun, 91 of Casselton, ND, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Essentia Health in Fargo.

Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing, time at the family lake home on Lake Melissa and trips to Las Vegas. He was a life-time member of the Cass County Wildlife and Casselton American Legion Rugg-Heille Post #15.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine; daughter, Jean Kapaun; great-granddaughter, Andrea Leitheiser and brothers, Eugene and Don Kapaun.

Robert is survived by his children, Joan (Joe) VanLaere of Casselton, Renee Kapaun of West Fargo, Robert, Jr. (Marty) Kapaun of Casselton, Bill (Robyn) Kapaun of Wheatland, ND, Jayne (Jim) Meyer of Casselton; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and his cousin, Kenny Christl of Mapleton, ND.

Robert will be greatly missed by his family and by all who knew him. Memorials are preferred to Casselton Community Care.

Visitation: Thursday, January 2 from 5-7 pm at West Funeral Home, Casselton and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Prayer Service: Thursday at 7:00 pm at the funeral home.

Funeral Service: Friday, January 3 at 11:00 am at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Casselton.

Interment: Casselton Cemetery, Casselton.
