Virginia (Ginny) M. Gratton

Virginia (Ginny) M. Gratton, age 93, of Northwood, ND passed away peacefully Sunday, December 29, 2013 at the Northwood Deaconess Nursing Home.

Virginia M. Lempe was born October 3, 1920 in rural Grace Township, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Crerar) Lempe. She attended country school and graduated from Larimore High School in 1938. Ginny married Alfred Gratton on September 12, 1941. Following their marriage, Ginny worked at a munitions factory in Detroit while Alfred served in the Army Air Corp during WWII. After returning from the service, they lived and farmed on the Lempe Century farmstead in Grace Township near Northwood, where they raised their three children, Terry, Randy, and Rebecca (Becky). Alfred passed away November 4, 1988. After his passing, Ginny continued to live on the farm until entering the nursing home in 2011.

Ginny’s love of family and pride in the farmstead was shown in the many events she and Alfred hosted for family and friends. She enjoyed playing cards, bowling, her annual fishing trips, and following Larimore High School sports. Ginny attended the Larimore Methodist Church. She was a proud lifetime member of the Ted Valerius Legion Auxiliary Unit 97.

She is survived by her sister Marion (Cliff) Mootz, Canby, OR; son Terry (MaryBelle) Gratton, Larimore, ND; daughter-in-law Janet Gratton, Northwood, ND; daughter Becky (Keith) Rosenkranz, Fargo, ND; Grandchildren, Chad Gratton, Grand Forks, ND; Ryan Gratton, Grand Forks, ND; Shanna (Will) Demke, West Fargo, ND; Jake Rosenkranz, Fargo, ND; Courtney Gratton, Minneapolis, MN; Mark (fiancée Molly Madsen) Rosenkranz, Minneapolis, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

Ginny was preceded in death by her husband Alfred and son Randy; brothers Floyd, John, George, Donald; sisters Iva and Marjorie.

Visitation will be Monday, January 6, 2014 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Bakke Funeral Home in Larimore.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., at the Larimore Methodist Church.

Interment: Bellevue Cemetery, Larimore, ND
