Velma R. Kinzler

Velma Roena Kinzler, 85 of Lidgerwood, ND, was joyfully escorted home by the angels on Monday, January 6, 2014, at Elim Care Center, Fargo, ND. Funeral service will be held Friday, January 10, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Lidgerwood, with burial in the spring at Pleasantview Cemetery, Lidgerwood. Visitation will be Thursday, January 9, 2014, from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. all at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Lidgerwood. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Pastor Mike Ward of the United Methodist Church will conduct the funeral and the prayer service. Organist will be Donna Miller with special music by Curt Brownlee.

Velma was born December 29, 1928, at Christopher, IL, the daughter of P. Wood and Ruth (Duckworth) Johnson. Early years were on the family farm. The family later moved to Christopher, IL, where she attended and graduated from school. On July 19, 1951, she was united in marriage to Francis Kinzler at the Christopher Methodist Church. Velma and Francis moved every one to five years with the first 2 years in Pennsylvania and the following 61 years in North Dakota. With her husband Francis as a minister in the Methodist Church (later the United Methodist Church), Velma was very active in the church, as a member of WSCS, then later of UMW. She attended many Bible studies over the years.

In 1992, they retired and settled in Lidgerwood, ND. She enjoyed spending time with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening and spent many hours outside with her flowers and her vegetables which she shared so generously. She was a great cook and shared her talent with many people. She sewed clothing and quilted many items over the years and was willing to help the family with mending and other projects. Many people received gifts of her small, medium and bed size quilts which were stitched with love. In December of 2010, Velma and Francis moved to Elim Care Center of Fargo.

Velma is survived by her husband of 63 years: Rev. Francis Kinzler, Fargo, ND; daughters: Rev. Beatrice Kinzler, Corwith, IA, Janice (David) Breker, Lidgerwood, ND, Mary Kinzler and Sarah Kinzler, Fargo, ND; son:Francis Kinzler Jr., Devils Lake, ND; sister: Sue (Rev. Bill) Dupree, Americus, GA; five granddaughters and six great-grandchildren; many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; numerous nephews and nieces.

Velma is preceded in death by her parents: P. Wood and Ruth Johnson; a daughter, Patricia (at birth); three brothers: Perry, Dwight and Carl.
