David G. Johnson

David G. Johnson, 89, of Ada, Minnesota passed away January 8, 2014, at Benedictine Care Community, Ada under the care of Hospice.

David was born to Gustaf and Albertina (Wilkens) Johnson, on December 25, 1924, on the family farm in Pleasant View Township. He attended country school thru eighth grade and then attended Northwest Agricultural College in Crookston, MN for 1 year studying agriculture and animal husbandry. He farmed the family farm in Pleasant View Township which was established in 1911 by his Father and continuing with son, Lynn and later joined by grandson Chuck. David was a long time producer of certified seed, registered Hereford cattle, and Duroc hogs. He served the agricultural community thru his time on boards such as Ada Co-op Oil Association, Red River Valley Winter Shows, Norman County Crop Improvement, Minnesota Hereford Association, and served as a Norman County 4-H leader.

He met his wife, DeLores (Akason) Johnson, while she was recruiting 4-H leaders as the Norman County Home Extension Agent. They were united in marriage on April 10, 1950, at Hillsboro, ND. They were married for 60 years before she passed away on December 9, 2010. They farmed and raised their family on the family farm in Pleasant View Township, North of Ada. They spent many winters in their winter home at Venture Out in Mesa, AZ. In 2007, they moved to Sheyenne Crossing in West Fargo, ND and returned to Ada in 2009, entering Bridges Care Community.

Left to cherish his memory are daughter, Julien (Barry) Batcheller, West Fargo, ND; son, Lynn (Patty) Johnson, Ada; daughter, Janell (Jeff) Regimbal, Grand Forks, ND; and seven grandchildren: Dr. April Batcheller (Dr. Andrew Shaffer), Cincinnati, OH; David(Mary)Batcheller, Fargo, ND; James Johnson, St. Louis Park, MN; Charles Johnson, Ada, MN; Paul Johnson, Fargo, ND; Jennifer Regimbal, Fargo, ND; and Brady Regimbal, Grand Forks, ND; and two great-grandchildren, Felicity and Ainsley Batcheller. David was preceded in death by his parents and 6 sisters; Elvira Johnson, Lenore Benson, Ardis Emmerich, Jean Nash, Alta Brunsberg, and Royal Bothwell.

Memorials are preferred to Grace Lutheran Church, Ada and Benedictine Care Community, Ada, MN.

Funeral: 11:00AM Monday, January 13, 2014, at Grace Lutheran Church, Ada, MN.

Visitation: Sunday from 4PM to 6PM, with a 5:30PM prayer service at Fredrikson Funeral Home, Ada, MN.

Burial: Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada, MN.
