Louise Sara (Friedman) Nicoli, 88, passed away, January 25, 2014, at the Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City, ND.

Louise Sara Friedman was born on July 23rd, 1925, in Long Island, NY. She was the daughter of Abraham and Rose Friedman. She was educated in Brooklyn, NY and graduated from High School in Baltimore, MD. She worked for the Baltimore and Ohio (B & O) Railroad in Baltimore, MD.

She met Harvey Nicoli in Baltimore at an USO Club. They were married on May 31st, 1947 in Washington, DC. They lived and farmed near Valley City, ND until retiring in 1982. Louise was always thankful for the love and support from family and friends who helped her become the strong, caring person she was. Faith, family & friends were very important to her.

Her three sons, Don, Louie and David were her pride and joy. She enjoyed all their activities, especially wrestling at VCHS. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley City and served on the Church Council. Louise was active in the Republican Party and enjoyed serving with them. She also enjoyed her time in the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary and reached the goal of Madame President for the Eagles of North and South Dakota. Her ability to tell a good joke always had friends and loved ones laughing. She loved her time with Weight Watchers and as a lecturer for others.

She loved to travel and enjoyed visiting her sons and families as they lived on opposite coasts of the US. She was very proud of and enjoyed spending time with her Grandchildren and loved watching and cheering them on in their activities during school and their accomplishments in their adult years. Her home was always open to them and all her friends and family, with baked goodies of all kinds or a delicious meal before they left.

She loved to read, work on crossword puzzles, crochet afghans, dolls and various decorations, play bingo, take occasional trips to the casino, watch her flower beds and planters grow and bloom and watch the birds in her feeders. After retiring, they spent their winters enjoying Florida for 25 years. She enjoyed golfing, cards with friends and sightseeing in Florida.

The last few years of her life were her most enjoyable even though she lost her hearing, sight and mobility. She loved her visits with her family and friends and was especially thankful to all her caregivers for their tender, loving care. Her positive outlook on life and genuine care and love for others will never be forgotten.
