Tim Lien built the TC Tomato Cradle based on a prototype first made by his dad and uncle. Lien, who has applied for a patent for the garden item, says the cradle is sturdier than typical tomato cages and holds up to strong winds and heavy plants.

  • Tim Lien started building his own tomato cradles after his wife, Cassie, encouraged him to plow up their backyard for a vegetable garden. Tammy Swift / The Forum
  • The Liens also are experimenting with a support for cucumber vines. This one, based on Cassie’s ideas, has slats that can be moved as the plant grows.
