Bernhard(Ben) M. Weigel
The funeral for Ben M. Weigel, Napoleon, ND will be held Monday, August 26, 2013 at 10:00 AM at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Napoleon, ND. Visitation will be on Sunday, August 25, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service Sunday at 7:00 PM at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Napoleon, ND. Burial will be at the St. Philip Neri Catholic Cemetery.

Ben M. Weigel, son of Michael and Margaret (Wangler) Weigel was born on December 22, 1929 and raised on a farm southwest of Napoleon, ND in the St. Boniface area. Ben’s dad became ill and was permanently hospitalized when Ben was just 7 and eventually died when Ben was 18. Ben farmed with his mother. He married Katherine (Katie) Feist on October 17, 1949 at St. Anthony Catholic Church rural Napoleon, ND. They stayed on the family farm and raised 13 children (8 girls and 5 boys). They continued to farm until he retired in 1989. Ben and Katie then moved into Napoleon where he continued to enjoy helping his son’s farm, especially working with cattle. In his retirement years, Ben started a woodworking hobby and built various woodworking products which he displayed and sold at craft shows. Ben liked to polka and enjoyed playing softball, cards, and the organ (which he learned to play by ear). Additionally, he enjoyed bowling and for many years held the single high game record at the Napoleon bowling alley with a score of 288. He took pride in his garden and yard and decorated it with many flowers. He also set up an amazing display of Christmas lights and decorations. Ben loved to spend time with his grandchildren. He was a man of deep faith and enjoyed going to church and was a very active member of the Knight of Columbus receiving 4th degree honors. He was a former Grand Knight.
