Christabel Peterson
Age 93. Born In Wahpeton, ND, on April 13, 1920, Christabel passed away peacefully on November 15, 2013. She was the daughter of a minister and was raised on farms in North Dakota, ending up in McHenry at the age of 16 with her Norwegian Immigrant parents and 3 siblings. She is preceded in death by her parents, Nils and Margrethe Odegaard, her brother Norman, sisters Anna Guischer and Karen Heinsen, and ex-husband Maurice Peterson. She is survived by her 4 children, Marlowe (Jodi), Ellen (Steve) Peterson, Mallory, and Lynn; grandchildren, Karli Peterson, Rory and Eric Fredrickson, and Grace Peterson. She moved to Minneapolis and married in 1943. She worked many jobs during WWII, including The Twin Cities Ordnance Plant. She also joined Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis that year and was involved in many committees there. She was also a member of Floral Guild for many years. She studied at MacPhail's School of Music for many years to be a church organist, but gave it up when she started a family. In the 1960s, she became involved with the American Camping Association. She worked for Jim Bredemus of Camp Birchwood for several years. In 1968, she became the secretary for Camp Lincoln for Boys and Camp Lake Hubert for Girls in Lake Hubert, MN working for the Cote family until her retirement in 1994. She moved up to Camp Lincoln in the summers and came back to Edina to work in the Edina office in the offseason. All 4 of her children were campers there, and daughter Lynn was on staff for a couple of years. Those were the most meaningful and important years of her life. She made life-long friends from those year and met people from all over the world. The Cotes were like family to her. Memorials preferred to family. Lonnie J. Hendrickson
Lonnie Jay Hendrickson was born April 26, 1963, in Moorhead, MN, to Jerome and Kathie (Hughes) Hendrickson. He passed away, Monday, October 28, 2013, to enter into a peaceful place at the hands of our Savior Jesus. Lonnie is now free of the painful effects of his diabetes and many health problems from which he suffered.

Lonnie attended grade school at St. Anthony School in Fargo, ND. He worked for Swanson Construction, Fargo, and also worked and lived in Alaska. He loved fishing, especially while in Alaska. His last job was at The Pallet Company, Fargo, until he was unable to work anymore.

William L. Gilge Jr.
"Mr. Bill” age 66, of West Fargo, passed away at his home on May 26th, 2013, surrounded by his loving family under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley after a long valiant battle with cancer.

Bill, the son of William Gilge Sr and Garnet Gilge, was born in Moorhead August 2, 1946. He graduated from Glyndon in 1964. In 1966, Bill joined the Happy Hooligans of the North Dakota Air National Guard. He retired 29 years later. After retirement, he worked for Odegaard Wings in Kindred, ND restoring aircraft, such as the P51 and the Super Corsair airplanes.

MADISON,WI.-Eugene A. Rich, age 92, passed away October 30, 2013, at Oakwood Village University Woods, Madison, WI, surrounded by his children.

Gene was born to Daniel Lee and Clara (Jorstadt) Rich in New Rockford, ND, on November 25, 1920. He grew up and graduated from high school in Hope, ND. He attended Wahpeton State College until enlisting in the US Navy in December 1941. Gene served his country during World War II aboard the USS Nitro and the USS Patoka, Navy tanker ships carrying fuel between Brazil and Trinidad. Following his discharge from the Navy, Gene graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1946. On June 29, 1947, he married Joann Palmer in Halliday, ND. Gene and Joann resided in Bismarck, ND, where Gene was employed as an accountant for the State of North Dakota Unemployment Compensation Division until his appointment as the state bank examiner for North Dakota. In 1966, Gene and Joann moved to Fargo, ND, where Gene was the executive vice -president of the State Bank of Fargo (now Bell State Bank and Trust). He served as chair of the Bank of North Dakota Advisory Board from 1969-1981 and President of the Independent Community Banks of North Dakota in 1979. In 2003, Gene and Joann moved to Madison, WI, to be closer to family. Gene was a very active member of Faith United Methodist Church, Fargo, ND, during his years in Fargo. He was currently a member of Sugar River United Methodist Church, Verona, WI.

Dorothy J. Hughes, 95, Moorhead, MN, passed away very peacefully on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, surrounded by her family, in Eventide on 8th, Moorhead.

Dorothy Jane Long was born on February 1, 1918, to Mary and Edward Long, in Moorhead. She attended Moorhead High School and, shortly thereafter, married Daniel Hughes on June 1, 1937. Dorothy stayed at home with her children for many years before working as a Lunch Lady at St. Joseph School, Moorhead. She always made sure you knew she never missed a day of work her whole time there.

Laverne Staples, 92, of Grand Forks, ND and formerly of Cavalier, ND passed away Monday, March 3, 2014 at Woodside Village in Grand Forks. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 14, 2014 at 10:30a.m. at the Cavalier Presbyterian Church in Cavalier. A visitation will be held Thursday, March 13, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00p.m. with a 7:00p.m. prayer service at the Askew Funeral Home in Cavalier. Burial will be held in the Cavalier Cemetery.

Cecil Laverne Staples was born May 17, 1921 at Hamilton, ND to Cecil and Alvina (Hudson) Staples. He grew up in Hamilton and attended school there until the eighth grade, then graduating from Park River Ag School. On November 5, 1943, Laverne married Doris Gelder in Bathgate, ND. After their marriage, they moved to Chicago, IL, and then back to Hamilton where Laverne owned Staples Cash Service. He worked at Irwin Motors and then managed Wilson Brothers Parts Store where he eventually retired. Some of his hobbies include fishing, hunting, carpentry, attending flea markets and auction sales. Laverne won many ribbons at the Pembina County Fair for his gardening. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special to him. Laverne became a member of the Masonic Lodge in 1948 and has been a lifelong member.
