Jane Blair Weis
Jane Blair Weis died February 19th, 2013 at the age of 92. Jane was born and raised in Fargo, North Dakota with her two sisters. She received a BS degree in math and science at North Dakota State University and earned a master's degree in education from the University of Chicago. She met her husband, Erich Weis M.D., in Waukegan, Illinois, where she was teaching math and science at Waukegan Township High School. They married in the fall of 1945. Jane left teaching in 1946 and served two terms on the school board in Waukegan and subsequently as the Health Educator at the Lake County Mental Health Clinic. She was active in civics with the local chapter of the League of Women Voters. Jane remained in Waukegan until her husband's retirement in 1975 when they moved to Asheville, North Carolina. Jane served the Asheville community as a volunteer with many local organizations. Among those closest to her heart were the League of Women Voters, the Swannanoa Chamber Music Players and Warren Wilson College. Jane was an active participant in the communities in which she lived. She was a passionate supporter of NPR and Public Television, education, the arts and many organizations that focus their efforts on helping those in need. She was a life-long learner with a keen wit. She was a remarkable woman and will be missed by those who knew and loved her.

Jane was preceded in death by her grandson, Jacob Schmies, her parents, Thomas W. Blair and Marguerite Hills Blair, her sisters Ellen Fredrikson and Martha Zimoski and her husband of nearly 51 years, Erich Weis, M.D.. She is survived by her three daughters; Marguerite Weis Mauradian (Frank), Mary Ellen Weis Doll (Norm) Trudi Weis Schmies, granddaughters Lara and Sarah, grandsons Alex and Erich and great grandchildren Corrie and Cyle.
