Elois Vikander
Elois Romaine Edlund was born April 13, 1929, in Fargo, ND, to C. Selmer and Grace (Halgunseth) Edlund. She graduated from Abercrombie (ND) High School in 1946. Elois married Vernon J. Vikander on December 13, 1946, and they moved to the Black Hills (SD) Ordnance Depot in June of 1947. Elois moved to Moorhead, MN, in 1961.

Elois worked at American State Bank, Dakota Bank, and the Madison Hotel. She retired to Ottertail Lake where she loved to watch and listen to the loons, geese, and wood ducks. In December of 2009, she moved to Cozy Country Living in Hawley, MN, where she was cared for by two special angels - Jeff and Ginger Dauner.

Violet "Vi" Haugtvedt
Violet "Vi" Haugtvedt was born January 23, 1927 in Norwegian Grove Township in Ottertail County, Minnesota, the daughter of Ingvald and Bernice (Julsrud) Haugtvedt. Vi grew up on several different farms in Pelican Rapids/Rothsay/Barnesville communities. She graduated high school in Barnesville, MN. After graduation she worked in Chicago for Northwestern Bell and later transferred to the Fargo Moorhead area for a few years. On February 20, 1949 Vi married Harold "Harry" Degenstein. Together they had two children, Peggy Lynne and Joel Alec. They made their home in the Fargo Moorhead area until Harry's job moved them to Jamestown and later Detroit Lakes, MN. In 1960 they moved back to Jamestown and Vi started working at the ND Farmers Union State Office. She worked there until 1992, retiring after 32 years with them. Harry passed away on November 6, 1993. They were married for 44 years. Vi continued to make her home in Jamestown.

Vi met Albert Wolf in the fall of 1997 at a senior singles dance in Merricourt. It was the first dance either one of them attended after the death of their spouses. They found they had much in common; going to Hardees for coffee, walking, fishing, drives in the country, family activities and sharing their faith. They were married on May 5, 1999.

Wilma Larson
Wilma Larson, 83, Jamestown, ND passed away peacefully Thursday, August 8, 2013 at Jamestown Regional Medical Center, Jamestown. Wilma Christianson was born October 25, 1929 to Willie and Lena (Fosse) Christianson at their farm home near Enderlin, ND. She was baptized and confirmed at West St. Olaf Lutheran Church near their farm. She attended country school and graduated from Enderlin High School in May 1947. In September she was employed by Ottertail Power Company in their Enderlin office. In 1949, she was transferred to their Jamestown office. She was married to Purl Larson on April 2, 1950 at the First Lutheran Church parsonage in Enderlin. They made their home in Jamestown and became proud parents of two daughters. She started working for the City of Jamestown and retired in 1994 after more than 30 years of service. Wilma bowled for many years and was inducted into the Jamestown Women's Bowling Association Hall of Fame. She enjoyed playing cards and belonged to a whist club for over 40 years. Wilma was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and Eagles Auxiliary. She was proud of her Norwegian heritage and in 1982, made a trip to Norway, Sweden and Denmark. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Rod) McGruder, Olathe, KS; grandsons, Matt McGruder, Olathe, KS and Ryan (Erin) McGruder, Overland Park, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Purl in 1971, daughter LaVonne in 2010, two brothers, one sister, one niece and one nephew.

Funeral service: 10:30 AM, Monday, August 12, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND with Pastor Rich Fitzer, officiating.

Hilma Beatrice Virnala
Hilma Beatrice Virnala passed away Monday, March 17, 2014, at Perham Health, Perham, MN surrounded by her family.

Hilma Anderson was born November 28, 1928, to Hugo and Hilda (Hyrnkansas) Anderson in Otto Township. She attended District 160 and was confirmed in the Apostolic Lutheran Church in 1944. In 1945, she moved to Minneapolis to work until 1947. On September 13, 1947, Hilma married Rudolph V. Virnala. They lived in Chicago, Ill., until 1948 when they moved back to the Virnala farmstead and farmed until retiring in 1983. Through the years, she worked various jobs including the Mills Hospital and as a chef at The Chalet in Ottertail. Hilma enjoyed gardening, reading, crossword puzzles and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her family. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, daughter Janeen, sister Helen, brothers Alvin, Floyd, and Wesley. Hilma is survived by her children: Janice Andvik, Moorhead; James, New York Mills; Julie (Bill) Tessar, Moorhead; and Jackie, New York Mills; son-in-law: Cliff McLain, Moorhead; 6 grandchildren: Aimee Rastedt, Fargo; Ryan Rastedt, Fargo; Stacy (Ryan) Fecho, Savage; Josie Virnala, New York Mills; Jon-Erik Virnala, Moorhead; Daniel McLain, Moorhead; 4 step-grandchildren: TJ Tessar, Moorhead; Thayer Tessar, Fargo; Elizabeth McLain, Moorhead; Heidi (Scott) Nordin, Grand Forks; Jill (Mike) Brethorst, Melrose; and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers, Marshall, Marvin, and Stanley (Julia) Anderson; sister Agnes (Jim) Winchester as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
