Rutland residents fight reduction in post office hours
RUTLAND, N.D. – Residents here are again fighting to keep normal hours at their post office. The retail window of the post office here, now open eight hours each weekday and two hours on Saturday, will have its weekday hours cut to two hours, a U.S. Postal Service official told the small town of about 180 in a community meeting this week.

Susan Gail (Degenstein) Henderson was born November 12, 1948 to Christ and Margaret (Mergel) Degenstein in Harvey, ND. She graduated from Anamoose High School and later in life attended Moorhead State University. She married Warren Charles Henderson February 19, 1968 in St. Francis Xavier Church in Anamoose, ND.

She had a day care center in her home for several years and later worked at Farmers Union in Forman, ND as a bookkeeper.

Nancy Elizabeth (Potts) Cote died peacefully March 19,2014 in Marshalltown, IA. She was born February 16, 1953 in LaMoure, ND, the 9th of 11 children. Her parents were Grover (Budd) and Jane (Skovgaard) Potts. She is survived by her daughter, Jessie Sloane, a grandson, Ethan Sloane, and a granddaughter, Elizabeth (Ellie) Sloane, all of Mansassas, VA. Sisters, Sally Lofthus, Nampa, ID., Pat Burgum, Mobile AL., Mary Charrier, Inver Grove Heights, MN., Fran (Harvey) Trapp, Bismarck, ND., Laura Sunsdahl, Bismarck, ND., brothers, Bobby Potts, Philippines, Bill (Terry) Potts, LaMoure, ND., Martin (Julie) Potts, Gwinner, ND., Richard (Julie) Potts, Neenah, WI., and the extended Skovgaard and Potts families. She was preceded in death by her parents Budd and Jane Potts and one sister, Virginia Evans.

Blair E. Thielke, 51, Lisbon, ND, passed away Monday, March 3, 2014, unexpectedly at his residence. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, March 11, 5:30 PM at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton, ND, with Rev. Morris Stephens officiating. There will be visitation from 4 PM up until the time of the service on Tuesday. Arrangements have been entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.

Blair was born October 22, 1962, at Fergus Falls, MN, the son of Harlan and Darlene (Johnson) Thielke. He grew up in Wahpeton attending public schools and graduating from Wahpeton High School in 1981. He attended NDSCS in Wahpeton, where he was enrolled in Tool and Die Making. Blair worked for Ro-Banks Manufacturing in Wahpeton for ten years. In 1993 he started employment with Bobcat in Gwinner, ND and lived in Lisbon.

Bruce E. Aarestad, 70, Fargo, formerly Lisbon, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at the ND Veteran’s Hospital, Fargo.

Bruce Erwin Aarestad was born on October 25, 1943 in Fargo, North Dakota, the eldest son of Erwin and Eleanor Aarestad. Bruce’s early years were spent on the family farm in Sargent County, North Dakota. He attended Gwinner School (grades 1 thru 4) and then Forman School (grades 5 thru 7), all in Sargent County. In 1956, Bruce and his family moved to north Fargo where he attended Ben Franklin Junior High followed by Fargo Central High School. He graduated with the Class of ’61.

Eunice Mildred (Litchfield) Anderson
Eunice Mildred (Litchfield) Anderson, daughter of Roland and Millie (Conklin) Litchfield, was born on April 23, 1919, in Gwinner, North Dakota. She attended rural grade school and graduated from Gwinner High School in May of 1938. Eunice was united in marriage to Robert (Bob) Anderson on July 2, 1938 in Britton, South Dakota. They moved to Ellendale, North Dakota, where Bob attended Ellendale Normal Industrial College, and Eunice was "housemother" to several athletes. Bob graduated from college, they moved to New London, North Dakota, where Bob taught and coached at the New London High School for one year before enlisting in the US Navy. Eunice and their daughter, Bobette, moved back to Gwinner until WWII ended. They moved to Lidgerwood, North Dakota for three years, and then the family moved to Fargo, North Dakota where they lived for 16 years. Eunice worked at Pepsi Cola Bottling Company until she and Bob moved back to Gwinner in 1967 where they built a fourplex and lived in one of the apartments until Bob passed away in 1998. Eunice moved to Maple Grove, Minnesota in 2003 to be closer to two of her daughters.

Eunice was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Gustaf Adolf Lutheran Church and the Gwinner Duplicate Bridge Club. She loved gardening, cooking, playing cards and spending time with her family.
