Roger White
Roger White, 70, Stirum, ND died April 25 at Sanford Medical Center surrounded by family. Roger was born July 31, 1942 in Britton, SD to Paul and Violet (Hill) White. He attended the Stirum School and went on to college in Wahpeton. In 1962, he married Connie Robins and together they had two children: Tracey and Paul. Roger worked at Melroe Manufacturing (Bobcat) until 1974 and then he took on full-time farming. He retired from farming in 2006. Roger was a Gwinner Volunteer Fireman, a member of North Sargent School Board, G.A. Men's Group, Stirum Community Club, Sargent County Water Board, Red River Basin Commission and Vivian Township Board. He became a member of the Mason's and Shiners' in 1998. Roger enjoyed his years of raising grain and row crops, pedal tractor pulls, go cart racing, car club and playing pool with friends. He looked forward to the summer when he could drive his '57 Ford Fairlane Convertible in area parades. He was an avid deer hunter, enjoyed fishing and was always proud to watch his grandchildren in school events. Roger is survived by his wife, Connie; two children Tracey (Jerry) Waswick and Paul (Jennifer) White all of Gwinner, ND. Roger adored his five grandchildren; Shane and Dustin White, Emily, Sarahbeth and Ben Waswick. He is also survived by one sister; Carolyn Hopewell, Mesa, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral service for Roger will be Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 10:30 am at the Gustaf Adolf Lutheran Church, Gwinner. Visitation will be Monday, April 29, 2013 from 5:00-7:00 pm with a prayer service following at 7:00 pm held at Armstrong Funeral Home in Lisbon. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Lisbon at a l

Elaine Johnson-Ruhn, 85, passed away Saturday, April 6th 2013 at Parkside Nursing Home, Lisbon, ND. Elaine was born May 9th, 1927 to Hans and Edith (Johnson) Wohler in the rural Milnor area. She attended country school and then Milnor High School.
On July 24th 1943, she was married to Lloyd A. Johnson at Webster, SD. They made their home in rural Milnor. They were blessed with 7 children before moving to a farm site in rural Gwinner in 1954, where they had 3 more children; Larry (Sally) Johnson, Milnor; Donna; Duane (Betty) Johnson, Gwinner; Carolyn (Richard) Jacobson, Lisbon; Kay (Larry) Swanson, Gwinner; Kent (Julie) Johnson, Gwinner; Charlene (Bill) Smith, Forman; Miles (Lannae) Johnson, Gwinner; Allan; and Dale (Joanne) Johnson, Roseville, MN.

Merl David Haakenson, age 40, Marion, ND, loving father, son, brother, and husband, was taken too soon from his earthly family on March 23, 2013.
Merl was born May 21, 1972 at Jamestown, ND, to Ramona and James Haakenson of Dickey, ND. He grew up in Dickey, raised by his loving parents, two brothers, and one sister, as well as under the watchful eye of his "Dickey Village" family.

Gary A. Lien, 68, of Milnor, ND, passed away March 21, 2013, at Sanford Health Palliative Care, Fargo, ND, surrounded by family.
Gary was born December 13, 1944 at Breckenridge, Minnesota to Maynard and Gene (Martinson) Lien. He grew up and attended school at Milnor, graduating from Milnor High School with the class of 1962. He was united in marriage to Paulette Tayer on March 30, 1968. Gary lived his entire life in the Milnor area, where he began farming with his parents and had dairy cows. Gary and Paulette made their home southwest of Milnor on Gary's Grandparents farm, Marvin and Svea Lien. Gary enjoyed gardening, playing and watching sports. In his younger days, he was remembered for his left-handed hook shot. Gary loved to hunt and fish with his sons, daughters-in-law, grandkids, nieces and nephews. Not only his children, but he also enjoyed taking his sons' friends hunting and fishing. Music was a big part of Gary's life. He was the bass singer in the Wild Oats Band. He was also in the Air National Guard for six years. Gary was a member of the Milnor American Legion. He served on several different boards; including the Milnor Township, Bison Booster Club, Spirit Corporation and Milnor Grain and Trading. Gary continued to farm and work for the US Postal Service as a mail carrier until retiring from farming in 2008 and the Postal Service in December 2010. In 1999, they moved into Milnor. Gary was a member of the Milnor Lutheran Church.

Jerrald "Jerry" G. Larson
Jerrald G. "Jerry" Larson, 78, of LaMoure, ND, passed away March 12, 2013, at Sanford Health, Fargo, ND.
Jerrald was born at LaMoure, ND on June 10, 1934, to Alfred and Neva (Muir) Larson. He attended country school at Dean 1 and Dean 3 through the 8th grade, and graduated from LaMoure High School in 1952. Jerry joined the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Putnam, a destroyer from 1953 to 1957. After his discharge, he returned to LaMoure to help his parents on the farm. On February 27, 1959, Jerry married Dorothy Smith. They made their home on the family farm until 1960, when they moved to Dickey, North Dakota, where Jerry worked at the Adrian Elevator. In 1961, the family moved to LaMoure, and Jerry was employed by the LaMoure Creamery, Art's Red Owl, and Willey's Milk Service along with starting his side business, Larson Septic Service in 1968, which he worked for 45 years. In 1973, he went to work for the Melroe Company in Gwinner, retiring in October of 1997 after 24½ years. Jerry also enjoyed his part time job doing farm work for Herb and Dakotah Harmsen, and Larry Harmsen.

Kenneth R. Krause, 77, Breckenridge, MN, formerly Wyndmere, ND passed away on Monday, March 11, 2013 at St. Francis Healthcare Campus, Breckenridge, MN. Funeral services will be on Friday, March 15 at 2:30 PM at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton, ND. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Elk Creek Cemetery, Wyndmere in the spring. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.
Kenneth was born on May 8, 1935 in rural Mantador, ND the son of Theodore and Ella (Rohl) Krause. Ken grew up and attended school in Wyndmere, ND. He did road construction work for Collins Construction and Gutzmer Construction and also worked for Bobcat and Kimberly-Clark in Breckenridge. Kenny moved to Dakota Estates in Lidgerwood, ND in 1990 and lived there until he became a resident of St. Francis Home in Breckenridge in 2006. Kenny was always very appreciative of the help he received from his caregivers.

Funeral services will be on Friday, March 15 at 2:30 PM at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton, ND. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Elk Creek Cemetery, Wyndmere in the spring. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.
