Franklin E. Jacobson, age 72, of Dilworth, MN, died on May 11, 2013, in his home in Dilworth, MN.

Franklin Eldon Jacobson was born on November 14, 1940, to Alfred and Emma (Sather) Jacobson on the family farm near Clearbrook, MN. He grew up and attended school in Clearbrook. Franklin worked on the family farm until he moved to Moorhead in 1957 and in October, 1961, he began working at Mid-America Steel in Moorhead where he worked for 42 years before retiring in 2003. He married Joan Erickson in April, 1970 and later divorced. Franklin also worked at American Crystal Sugar during the evenings for many years. He enjoyed fishing, camping, dancing and spending time with his family. Franklin was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead and a member of the FM Singles Club and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Alton Bendickson
Alton Bendickson, 63, Bejou, MN, died Monday, April 29, 2013, at Veteran Administration Health Care Systems in Fargo, ND, after a courageous battle against cancer.

Alton Keith Bendickson was born March 24, 1950, in Mahnomen, MN, the son of Bertram and Albertha (TerWisscha) Bendickson. He grew up and attended grade school in Bejou. Alton graduated from Mahnomen High School with the class of 1968. In 1969, he entered the US Army. After his honorable discharge in 1971, Alton worked as a police officer in the cities of Fertile and Mahnomen before becoming a deputy for the Mahnomen County Sheriff's Office. In the early 1980's, he was employed at American Crystal Sugar and then for Roger Wang in his plumbing and heating business. Most recently, Alton worked for Stenerson Home Improvement of Moorhead for 12 years, and was also employed part-time at Hector Airport as a security guard. Alton continued to work both jobs until his failing health forced him into retirement. His optimistic attitude was an inspiration to all.

Merl Robertson
Merl Lee Robertson, age 77, died Friday, April 26, 2013, in Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN, where he had been a resident since the end of 2012.

Merl was born June 24, 1935, in Manzanola, CO, the son of Albert and Alice Robertson. He grew up and received his education in Manzanola. In 1953, after his high school graduation, he moved to Rocky Ford, CO, where he worked for American Crystal Sugar.

V. Jean Beutler, 82, of Moorhead, MN, died Friday, April 26, 2013, in Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN.

Jean was born on February 8, 1931 in Minneapolis, MN, to Tevis and Jeanette (Tomperi) Dudley. She grew up and attended school in Akin, MN. On November 17, 1951, Jean married Duane Beutler in Fargo, ND. They lived in rural Glyndon while they farmed, until moving into Glyndon in 1975. In 1990 they moved to Moorhead.

Loyal Edward Busby
Loyal Edward Busby, Jr., 87, Hitterdal, MN, passed away April 16, 2013, at his farm home in Goose Prairie Township where he lived his entire life.

Loyal was born July 2, 1925, to Loyal (Sr.) and Stella (Lundberg) Busby at home in Goose Prairie Township. He was baptized and confirmed in Salem Lutheran Church. He graduated as valedictorian from Hitterdal High School in 1943. Loyal married Doloris Hogenson July 29, 1944, at her parents’ home in Hagen Township. Loyal and Doloris shared 63 years of marriage and raised ten children on their farm near Hitterdal. Loyal farmed until he retired at age 75. In addition to farming, he worked 17 campaigns at American Crystal, did carpentry work and custom baling. Loyal married Ida Lewis June 5, 2010, in a lawn wedding at Loyal’s farm surrounded by their families.

Dean M. Olson, 60, of Lake Park, MN, died Saturday, March 30, 2013, at his home.

Dean was born May 6, 1952 in Detroit Lakes, MN, to Ardean and Eleen (Rosman) Olson. He grew up and attended school in Lake Park, MN, graduating from Lake Park High School in 1970. He then attended Moorhead Technical College and received a degree in electronics. Both during and after High School he worked for his Dad as a heavy equipment operator. On August 4, 1973 he married Benita (Pollock) in Ulen, MN. Dean then worked for Cenex and American Crystal Sugar before settling in to his career as Director of Television Services at Concordia College in 1979. Dean worked for Concordia until his retirement in March of 2012. Dean enjoyed electronics, photography, airplanes, air shows and spending time playing with his grandchildren. His positive outlook and humor will be greatly missed.
