Russell F. Biewer
Russell F. Biewer, 89, of Lake Park, MN, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2013, in his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Russell Franklin Biewer was born November 8, 1923, in Audubon, MN, to John and Bertha (Swanson) Biewer. He grew up and attended school in Audubon and then helped his father on the farm. In 1944, he was drafted into the Marine Corp and served in Guam and China during WWII. Russell later married Jeanette Nelson on August 27, 1949. Together they made their home in Lake Park. For several years, Russell worked for Northern Pacific Railroad as an Engineer Watchman and later for Alexander Construction from 1959-1973, mostly in the twin cities area. From 1973-1986, he worked for Kohler Trucking and Baer Trucking. Russell was a member of the VFW in Audubon, and the American Legion in Lake Park. He will be dearly missed. The family would like to give special thanks to Hospice of the Red River Valley for the exceptional care.

Russell is survived by his wife of nearly 64 years, Jeanette; children, Jaqueline Biewer of Lake Park, Julie (Ron) McDonald of Detroit Lakes, James (Sue) Biewer of Detroit Lakes, Joni Biewer and Joe Bosch of Detroit Lakes; grandchildren, Jill (Greg) Erickson, Jed (Leah Bakken) Restad, Summer (Eric Aakre) Ramstad, Serena (Dan) Gigstead, Kelsey Biewer, Zander Bosch; and five great-grandchildren.

Lena Gilson
Lena Gilson, 94, Fargo, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Sanford Health Palliative Care.

Lena was born April 30, 1918 in Linton, North Dakota to Joseph and Barbara (Glatt) Bosch. She grew up in Linton, where she graduated from high school in 1936. She worked as a waitress and variety shop clerk in Linton. She moved to Portland, Oregon where she worked for Kaiser Shipping for 3 years. Lena moved to Oakland, California and worked for Montgomery Ward for 2 years. On May 30, 1946 she married William Gilson in Pawaska, Oklahoma. They moved to Fargo in October 1946 and have lived here since.

NAPOLEON, N.D. – Wrestling in North Dakota Class B, Region 1 is a grind. Region 1 consistently features many of the top individual grapplers and wrestling teams in the state. Last season, 46 of the 56 wrestlers that qualified for state from Region 1 placed and 12 of the 28 individual finalists were from Region 1.
