Gary A. Lien
Gary A. Lien, 68, of Milnor, ND, passed away March 21, 2013, at Sanford Health Palliative Care, Fargo, ND, surrounded by family.

Gary was born December 13, 1944 at Breckenridge, Minnesota to Maynard and Gene (Martinson) Lien. He grew up and attended school at Milnor, graduating from Milnor High School with the class of 1962. He was united in marriage to Paulette Tayer on March 30, 1968. Gary lived his entire life in the Milnor area, where he began farming with his parents and had dairy cows. Gary and Paulette made their home southwest of Milnor on Gary's Grandparents farm, Marvin and Svea Lien. Gary enjoyed gardening, playing and watching sports. In his younger days, he was remembered for his left-handed hook shot. Gary loved to hunt and fish with his sons, daughters-in-law, grandkids, nieces and nephews. Not only his children, but he also enjoyed taking his sons' friends hunting and fishing. Music was a big part of Gary's life. He was the bass singer in the Wild Oats Band. He was also in the Air National Guard for six years. Gary was a member of the Milnor American Legion. He served on several different boards; including the Milnor Township, Bison Booster Club, Spirit Corporation and Milnor Grain and Trading. Gary continued to farm and work for the US Postal Service as a mail carrier until retiring from farming in 2008 and the Postal Service in December 2010. In 1999, they moved into Milnor. Gary was a member of the Milnor Lutheran Church.

James "Henry" Crane, 90, of Cummings ND, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Sanford Health of Hillsboro, ND.

James Henry Crane was born on March 31, 1922 in Woodhull, Illinois, the son of James and Nelle (Sandquist) Crane. He attended Stickney Country Grade School and graduated from high school in Woodhull. Henry grew up and farmed with his parents until they moved in 1944 and purchased a farm near Cummings, ND.

Viola M. Seward, 78, of Richwood, MN, died Thursday, March 14, in Sanford Health, Fargo, ND. Alexander "Alex" F. Kossick, Jr.
Alexander “Alex” F. Kossick, Jr., 77, Audubon, MN, passed away Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, in Sanford Health Palliative Care, Fargo, ND after a long battle with cancer. Alex was born March 5, 1935, in Fargo, ND, to Alexander and LaVere (Farnham) Kossick. He grew up in Moorhead, MN, graduating from Moorhead Senior High School in 1953. After attending college for a short time during which he was in the Naval Reserve, he signed up for active duty in the US Navy in 1955 and served abroad the USS Curtiss as a radio technician. His ship participated in several nuclear tests in the Pacific: Operation Wigwam in 1955 (an underwater nuclear test 500 miles SW of San Diego) and Operation Redwing in 1956 (tests conducted on the Enewetak and Bikini Atolls in the Marshall Islands). He was honorably discharged from the US Navy and Reserve in March, 1961. He also served three years in the North Dakota Air National Guard and the US Air Force Reserve until his honorable discharge in April, 1966.

In 1959 he married Carole Mehl in Moorhead, MN, and they had a daughter, Stephanie. He worked as a salesman, truck driver and for his father as Manager of Kossick’s Off-Sale in Moorhead for several years before going to work for S.F. Douglas Truck Line in 1972 (which later became Central Distribution). He retired in 1990 when the Moorhead terminal closed and was thankful for his 20-year Teamster’s pension at that point.

Marcella Magdeline Loberg was born Aug. 13, 1939 at Rugby, ND to Joseph and Eugenia (Voeller) Wentz. She graduated from high school in Balta, ND and attended Joseph’s Beauty School in Fargo. Marcy married Garland Loberg on April 19, 1969 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, West Fargo. She worked as a hairdresser in West Fargo for 31 years. In 1996, she started working as a merchandiser for Saks News, a position that she held presently.

Arnold Walter Larson
Arnold Walter Larson, 95, of Fargo, ND died Thursday, March 14th at Sanford Health South Campus.

Arnold was born at Saint Luke's Hospital on March 10th, 1918. The happiest day of his mother's life, he would say. Arnold grew up on the family farm just north of Fargo. He attended Fargo public schools and graduated from Central High School. He attended NDSU until the start of the Second World War. After Pearl Harbor, he volunteered and served in the Army Air Corps as a B-17 Squadron Armament Officer. He suffered injuries during his service and was medically retired in 1945.

Jerrald "Jerry" G. Larson
Jerrald G. "Jerry" Larson, 78, of LaMoure, ND, passed away March 12, 2013, at Sanford Health, Fargo, ND.

Jerrald was born at LaMoure, ND on June 10, 1934, to Alfred and Neva (Muir) Larson. He attended country school at Dean 1 and Dean 3 through the 8th grade, and graduated from LaMoure High School in 1952. Jerry joined the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Putnam, a destroyer from 1953 to 1957. After his discharge, he returned to LaMoure to help his parents on the farm. On February 27, 1959, Jerry married Dorothy Smith. They made their home on the family farm until 1960, when they moved to Dickey, North Dakota, where Jerry worked at the Adrian Elevator. In 1961, the family moved to LaMoure, and Jerry was employed by the LaMoure Creamery, Art's Red Owl, and Willey's Milk Service along with starting his side business, Larson Septic Service in 1968, which he worked for 45 years. In 1973, he went to work for the Melroe Company in Gwinner, retiring in October of 1997 after 24½ years. Jerry also enjoyed his part time job doing farm work for Herb and Dakotah Harmsen, and Larry Harmsen.

Dale O. Nystul
Dale Orville Nystul was born August 10, 1939, in Fargo, ND, to Orville and Ruth (Sundblad) Nystul. Dale was raised in Fargo and graduated from Fargo Central High School.

Dale worked for Star Oil Company, Fargo, until he entered the US Navy. Following his discharge, he returned to Fargo and worked in a family business, Fargo Panel and Awning.
