Lois Syverson
Lois Syverson, age 79, of Ulen, MN died Saturday, December 21, 2013, at Sanford Palliative Care in Fargo, ND.

Lois Theone Stene, daughter of Lewis and Lillie (Slette) Stene, was born on October 21, 1934 at home in Norman County, MN. She grew up near Faith, MN where she attended country school and later graduated from Twin Valley High School. On June 8, 1952, Lois was united in marriage to Myron Klemetson. Following Myron's death on December 8, 1989, Lois moved into the Ulen community. She worked as a waitress in both Ulen and Hitterdal, MN. On November 20, 2000, Lois married Lyle Syverson and she gained a wonderful step family. They shared 10 wonderful years together. Lyle passed away on August, 19, 2010, and shortly thereafter she moved into the Northern Lights apartments in Ulen. She treasured her grandchildren and made precious memories with each of them. Her loving tender spirit will be missed by all.

John “Jack” K. Vining
John “Jack” K. Vining, 85 of Leonard, ND, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2013 at his home.

Jack was born on August 30, 1928 in Fargo, ND to Lenley and Marion (O’Bleness) Vining. He graduated from Chaffee High School and attended Concordia College. Jack served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. On May 11, 1954, he married Eva Hromick in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Jack spent his working years as both a farmer in the Chaffee area and as an aerial crop sprayer.

Myrtle M. Frisk, age 98, died Friday, December 13, 2013, in Eventide at Sheyenne Crossings in West Fargo, ND.

Myrtle Marion Olson, the daughter of Hannah and Gustav Olson, was born in rural Dale, MN, on December 29, 1914. She grew up and received her education in the Dale community. As a young lady, she lived and worked in Detroit Lakes, MN.

Brig. Gen. (ret.) John R. Harty
Brig. Gen. (ret.) John R. Harty completed his journey on earth on Wednesday morning, December 4, 2013 and has been promoted to the promise of life everlasting. His life was one of integrity, love of God, of country, and of family. A born leader, he combined his fine abilities with a personal touch and a keen sense of humor.

Gen. Harty was born in Grand Forks, N.D. on June 25, 1938 and graduated from Grand Forks Central High School in 1956. He received his BS in Civil Engineering from the University of North Dakota, was commissioned as a distinguished military graduate from ROTC to 2 nd Lt in the USAF, and was married all on the same day, August 6, 1960. He never forgot an anniversary.

Marion Maxine (Monson) Conrad
Marion Maxine (Monson) Conrad of Fargo, ND, formerly of Page, ND passed away peacefully at age 93 surrounded by her loving family in Fargo, North Dakota on December 3, 2013.

Marion was born March 13, 1920, to Clara and Clarence Monson of Prosper, North Dakota. She lived on a farm with her parents and attended a two-room country school in Prosper. Marion attended high school at NDAC Campus School until it closed in 1937. She then transferred and graduated from the Moorhead State College Campus School in 1939.

Sister M. Annella Miller, OSF
Mass of Christian Burial for Sister M. Annella Miller, OSF will be held will be held on Wednesday, December 4 at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel, St. Francis Convent, Hankinson, ND. Sister Annella died on Friday, November 29, 2013 at the convent.

Sister Annella Miller was born September 29, 1930 at Towner, North Dakota to Andrew and Lagetta (Neigal) Miller. Sister grew up on the family farm, located 10 miles southwest of Towner, with her six sisters and four brothers. Sister Annella made her First Profession of Vows on August 11, 1949. For many years she served the Lord on school missions and in hospitals, doing cooking and laundry. Among these missions were Mt. Carmel, Oakes, Drayton, Dearborn Seminary and Hankinson. Shortly after Vatican II, Sister was given the opportunity to continue her education. She obtained an Associate Degree in Social Service from Willmar Community College; a BA in Religious Studies and an MA in Social Ministry from the Christian Brothers College in Winona, MN. She served in parish ministry and religious education at the Newman Center in Grand Forks. She also served in Oakes and Verona, ND; Waverly, MN and a number of smaller parishes. She was stationed at St. Anne’s Guest Home from 1983 until she returned to the Provincial House in Hankinson in 2011. Sister Annella was the Spiritual Animator for the Secular Franciscans of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Her love and compassion for the poor and suffering was apparent as she spent much time at the City Mission and had an active prison ministry. She was a member of Right to Life; was on the prayer network and the Greater Grand Forks Aids Network. Sister also belonged to the North Dakota Workers for Nursing Homes.
