Marion Elizabeth Thompson
Marion Elizabeth Thompson, 93, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, in Tucson, Ariz. She was born in Westby, Wisc., on July 27, 1920, to Hilda and John Anderson. She graduated from Central High School in LaCrosse, Wisc., and worked at the LaCrosse Garment Manufacturing Company as an operator and instructor, and at the Northern Engraving and Manufacturing Company.

On March 6, 1944, she married Donald Gilmore Thompson. Marion, Donald and their family moved to Fargo, N.D., in 1956, where Marion worked for many years at Scheels Hardware. The family were longtime members of the First Lutheran Church in Fargo.

Colleen L. Johnson
Colleen Johnson, 75, of East Grand Forks, MN died Sunday, August 18, 2013. Colleen was born January 13, 1938 in Twin Valley, MN the daughter of Oscar and Stella (Ness) Johnson. She grew up in East Grand Forks graduating from EGF Senior High School and attended Akers Business College in Grand Forks. She worked 45 years at Home of Economy as a bookkeeper and was a choir member at Our Savior’s Church in EGF for 50 years.

Survivors include her sister Shirley Peters, Oakes, ND, and brother Oscar “Bud” (Diane) Johnson, Fargo, ND. She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Evelyn Mahle, Dorothy Strommen and Violet Johnson and brother Merelyn Johnson.

Duane Carlson
Duane M. Carlson, 74, Battle Lake, MN, died Monday, September 9, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Center, Battle Lake.

Duane was born March 11, 1939, in Powers Lake, ND, son of Harvey and Olga (Berg) Carlson. Attending country school, Pleasant View, Thorson Township, and graduating from Columbus High School in 1957, his education was continued at North Dakota State University, graduating in 1962 with BS Degree in Mechanized Agriculture/Ag Finance. Duane served six years with the North Dakota Air National Guard as a Flight Simulator Technician.

Irene F. Schmuser, 84 of Barnesville, MN, died Friday, September 6, 2013 at the Clayco Care Center in Barnesville.

Irene was born on June 27, 1929 in Stanton, Nebraska to Oscar and Louise Meierhenry. She graduated from high school in Stanton and received her degree in music and education from York College in York, NE. She taught 2nd grade in Grand Island, NE for 4 years and also taught for 3 years in Tampa, FL. She married Robert P. Schmuser in 1960 and was active in the United Methodist church in Arthur as well as many other volunteer activities.

Newell D. Hackey, 83, of West Fargo, ND passed away on Feb. 27, 2013 in Mesa AZ. Newell was born near Colfax ND to Oscar and Minnie (Hatlie) Hackey, on February 21, 1930. John Oscar "Sy" Syverson
John O. “Sy” Syverson, 75, Mission, TX, Park Rapids, MN and formerly Fargo, ND, passed away peacefully at Sanford Palliative Care on August 20, 2013, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

John was born on the family farm in Ulen, Minnesota on July 16, 1938, to Oscar S. and Clara (Jenzer) Syverson, and was the youngest of seven sons. He grew up in Ulen, was baptized and confirmed at Atlanta Lutheran Church, attended grade school at District 48 County School and graduated from Ulen High School in 1955. He graduated from NDSU, Fargo, ND. His educational path continued to National Air War College, Montgomery, AL.

Sharon (Giesler) Kinzler, 68 of Monango, ND was born on March 31, 1945 to Oscar and LaVern (Klettke) Giesler in Kulm, ND. She grew up on a farm 8 miles south of Kulm and graduated from the Kulm High School. She attended Ellendale State Teachers College studying as an elementary education major. Later in life, she obtained her LPN and worked at the Oakes Community Hospital.

She married her high school sweetheart, Brunno Kinzler on June 5, 1964. They had three children, David Kinzler, Kevin Kinzler, and Melissa Worrel, and eight grandchildren.

DuWayne Francis Lein
DuWayne F. Lein was born in Fargo, ND, August 17, 1922. He graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1941. DuWayne enlisted in the Army and was a radio operator/technician. He served with the 36th Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre. He was honorably discharged in 1945. DuWayne met Esther Howe at the Red Owl grocery store. They were married for 53 year, and raised two children.

In 1952, DuWayne began working with Dutch Maid Dairy as a delivery man. He worked there 27 years until his retirement. He then worked as a custodian for the Fargo Public Schools for 7 years.

Oscar winner Billy Bob Thornton will star in the TV version of the film "Fargo." FX network boss John Landgraf said Friday that Thornton has signed on to a limited series based on the 1996 crime comedy-drama. It's scheduled for a 10-episode run on FX next spring.

Thordis K. Danielson
Thordis K. Danielson, 92, died July 24, 2013 at the Palliative Care Unit of Sanford Hospital, Fargo. Thordis was a resident of Sheyenne Crossings, West Fargo, and formerly of New Rockford, ND.

Thordis Katherine Lee was born June 8, 1921 to Lars and Helga (Bolstad) Lee. She grew up on a farm near Colfax along with eight brothers, four older and four younger. She graduated from high school in Colfax. Thordis married Terry La Fournaise in September 13, 1943, in Havre, Montana. Sgt. LaFournaise was a member of a B-24 Liberator bomber crew and shortly after their marriage, he was deployed to action. On January 21, 1944 he was killed in a plane crash in Aden, Yemen. Thordis returned to North Dakota and enrolled in NDAC (NDSU) to pursue a degree in Home Economics. She was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority. During summer breaks from college, she worked at the Canyon Hotel in Yellowstone National Park. On September 3, 1948 she was united in marriage to Vernon L. Danielson of Abercrombie, ND. Mr. Danielson was also enrolled at NDSU after serving as a commissioned officer in the US Navy during World War II. Thordis graduated from NDSU in 1949, with a degree in Home Economics Education.
