Patrick J. Gaffney, 67, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be 6:00 PM Friday, December 13 at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. Friends may call 4:00 – 7:00 PM Friday at David-Donehower Funeral Home.

Patrick James Gaffney was born December 3, 1946 in Hawley, MN to Donald and Lucille (Sauer) Gaffney. His family lived in Rollag and later moved to Fargo, ND where he attended area schools. Patrick was united in marriage to Rosalie Alm January 13, 1968 in Fargo, ND. where they lived for a time before moving to Kansas, Christine, ND and then moving to Detroit Lakes in 1983. He worked at Fargo Tire for many years and for different construction companies in the Fargo-Moorhead area. He worked for Frank Hanson Construction in Detroit Lakes before becoming an independent contractor, which he did for 10 years until his health forced him to retire in 2009.

Douglas Arnold Prochnow
Douglas Arnold Prochnow, 51, passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was born in Moorhead, MN and grew up in Minnesota, North and South Dakota Doug was a member of Bellamy United Methodist Church where he served on several committees and was a member and past master of Botetourt Masonic Lodge # 7 in Gloucester. Doug served his country in the U.S. Army and then retired from the National Guard with a total of 20 years service. He was currently employed at Jacob Sverdrup Co. in Hampton as Engineering Technician IV Instrumentation Technician. Since 2007, Doug has provided data acquisition and instrumentation expertise support for the Landing and Impact Research Facility of the Structures Testing Branch at NASA Langley Research Center. Doug was the Data Acquisition Lead on over 80 tests for the ORION Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle (MPCV). The MPCV is NASA's space vehicle being developed for transport of cargo and/or crew to Space Station,, the moon, and potentially to Mars. Data from these tests have been used for making ORION landing system decisions. The success of these tests was made possible due to Doug's expertise, work ethics and professionalism.

Doug was preceded in death by his father Arnold R. Prochnow. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Marie B. Prochnow, daughters Kathryn and Amanda Prochnow, his mother Frieda Reister Prochnow of Jamestown, ND, his siblings Lorie (Ed) Farnsworth of McHenry ND, Lee Prochnow of Williston, ND, Darcie (Steve) Rolla of Watford, ND, nephew Evan, nieces Ashley, Shania, and Shayla, Godfather Herb Prochnow, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Virginia (Ginny) Heupel, 60, Fargo, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Evergreen Assisted Living following an 18 month battle with Cancer.

Virginia Heupel was born to Fred and Elizabeth (Erbele) Heupel at Ashley, North Dakota on November 11, 1953. Virginia grew up and attended school in Ashley, graduating from Ashley High School. She came to Fargo and began work in Food Services at Quality Bakery and was currently working at Sanford Food Services until becoming ill.

Janice L. (Walker) Otterson
Janice was born December 8, 1931 in Kensal, ND to Clarence and Della (Fredrickson) Walker. They moved to Fargo in 1943. Janice graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1949.

Janice married Leonard D. Otterson September 9, 1949 at Olivet Lutheran Church in Fargo. They had two sons and two daughters. Janice's life revolved around her children. She was PTA President, Camp Fire Girls leader, Cub and Boy Scout Den Mother, Sunday School Teacher, Bible School Teacher and other numerous children's activities. In 1955 the Otterson family became Charter Members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Janice was an active member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Women (BLCW), Bible studies, the Quilters group, Sunday School, and Bible School. She was a graduate of the Bethel Bible Study Program. In 1990 she toured the Holy Land.

George Jacobs
George Ann Jacobs, 75 of Mayville, ND went to heaven on Tuesday Dec 3, 2013 at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville. George Ann Jacobs was born May 5, 1938 in Sharpsburg, PA to George and Marie Jacobs. She attended Turtle Creek High School.

She married Robert W. Priestley in January of 1955. They had 2 daughters, Deborah and Catherine. Living a Military life, they traveled to Turkey, Italy, and Japan then settled in Finley, ND in 1975. George had many jobs in her lifetime, including managing the Finley Lounge, Sunset Lounge, the PLS and Eagles Club. She always wanted something better for herself, so at the age of 56, she moved to Jamestown, ND and later graduated from Valley City State College, as an Addictions Counselor in 1994. She moved to Minot ND and worked at the North East Human Service Center for 1 year. Then, she moved to Fargo where she worked at Prairie Psychiatric Center and the ShareHouse until Dementia took over her life and she became a resident of the Luther Memorial Home.

Yllet Corabelle “Corky” Strelau
Yllet Corabelle “Corky” Strelau, age 86, of Fargo, ND, passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2013, in Sanford Health’s Palliative Care Center, Fargo, ND. Corky was born February 2, 1927, in Luverne, ND, to Frederick and Bertha Larson. She grew up, attended and graduated from high school in Luverne. On July 4, 1951, she married Norman A. Strelau. Together they made their home in Valley City, ND, where they raised a family and were very active in several Veteran and Fraternal organizations over the years. In 1972, they moved to Fargo. Corky also enjoyed getting involved in many school functions, and most of all spending time with her family. She will be dearly missed.

Corky is survived by her children, Nyla Strelau of Fargo, ND, Sheila Strelau of Fargo, ND, Marvin (Carol) Strelau of Highlands Ranch, CO; grandchildren, Andrew, Matthew, Kelly and Ashley; sister, Coyla (Duane) Kunze; brother, Michael (Susie) Larson; sisters-in-law, Doreen Larson and Elfrieda (Allan) Christianson; brother-in-law, Vernon Fuglestad; several nieces, nephews and dear friends.
