Russell was born on October 19, 1935, at Rustad, MN, to Russell and Clarina (Rindahl) Hegge. He grew up and attended school in Barnesville, MN, graduating from Barnesville High School before attending the Wahpeton State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND. Russell married Karen Kuehl on December 12, 1957, in Sabin, MN, and they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on December 12, 2012 (12/12/12). They lived in the Fargo-Moorhead area all of their life. He worked for Pepsi Cola Bottling in route sales for many years, then owned and operated the café and grocery store in Leonard, ND, then worked in route sales for Deli Express before owning and operating Foolery’s Bar in Argusville, ND. They moved to Fargo when he semi-retired and he worked in floral delivery. Russell had a good sense of humor and could make anybody laugh. He was looking forward to his first great-grandchild, a baby girl.

Margaret Fjelstad
Margaret Alvilda (Trana) Fjelstad, 102, of Fargo, formerly Kindred, passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Elim Care Center under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. She was born on May 19, 1910 in Simcoe, ND to Ole J. and Sophia (Sollid) Trana. She grew up on a farm that her father homesteaded. She graduated from Granville High School in 1928. Following high school, she attended Minot State Teachers College and received her Teachers Certificate. Margaret taught for 5 years at various country schools. On October 29, 1936 she married Joseph Fjelstad at the Stenkjaer Lutheran Church in Simcoe, ND and they remained married for 51 years, until his death in 1987.
Margaret was a very active woman, and participated in many organizations. She was very involved in Ladies Aid, Senior Citizens, and Birthday Club. She had many hobbies including quilting, crocheting, gardening, and playing Bingo. Margaret was the “hostess with the mostest” and loved caring for others. She used this talent to make Christmas a very special time for her loved ones. Margaret was always an optimist and able to remain calm and composed. She loved her grandchildren and thoroughly enjoyed attending all of their special events.

Howard Holkesvig
Howard Ray Holkesvig, 80, of Portland, ND, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at his home.

Gary R. Dahl, 67, of Dilworth, MN, passed away on Friday, December 28, 2012, in Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND. Gary was born in Spokane, WA, on March 26, 1945, to Raymond and Gladys (Jacobsen) Dahl. He grew up in Glyndon, MN, attended school and graduated from Glyndon High School. In 1963, Gary enlisted in the U.S. Army and served until 1966. He lived in Florida for some time, and later in Alexandria, MN, before moving back to the area. Gary was a partner in D & S Towing in Moorhead and later worked various jobs until retiring from Amity Technology. He then enjoyed much of his time at Waubay Lake in South Dakota. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion in Moorhead. Gary enjoyed the outdoors and especially fishing. He will be missed.
Gary is survived by his fiancée, Linda Hieb and her children, Wade, Kevin, Todd (Amy), and Chad (Lynn); his children, Joey and Kristi Dahl; 9 grandchildren; his mother, Gladys (Loren) Wignes; sisters, Diane (LeRoy) Walks, Cindy Dahl; brother, Deny (Donna); several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; numerous friends; and his K9 companion, Angel.

Charles Dale Churchill was born on September 3, 1932 the son of Charles “Champ” and Daisy (Miller) Churchill in Grand Forks. He graduated from Central High School, Grand Forks in 1950 and attended the University of North Dakota where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. Dale graduated in 1954 from UND with a degree in accounting. He entered the US Air Force serving from 1955 to 1957. In May of 1956, Dale and Clarice Pals were married in Valley City, ND.

Robert Cooch
Robert Duane Cooch, 88, passed into our Lord's loving arms December 15, 2012. Born in Lisbon, ND October 25, 1924, he attended school in Courtney and graduated from high school in Wimbledon. He attended NDSU, Purdue University and enlisted in the US Marines. Bob served in the 5th US Marine Division and survived the landing on Iwo Jima and the initial occupation of Japan. In Jamestown, ND he married Faye Jean Brownson on June 17, 1948 at St. Jame's Basilica. They have resided in Fargo 64 years and raised three daughters.
Bob retired from Northwestern Bell with 40 years of service in 1986. After his retirement, Bob and Faye spent many winters in Sarasota enjoying the Florida sunshine. He was a charter member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, a member of the American Legion, Elks Club, Fargo Exchange Club, Knights of Columbus, SAE Fraternity, Sons of the American Revolution and involved in Civic Affairs. Bob was an accomplished bridge player and loved gardening, baseball, hunting, traveling and reading the comic section of the daily newspaper. Time spent with his daughters, grandsons and great-grandsons brought him great joy. His gentle demeanor will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
