Edith L. (Johnson) Sandvig, 89, Fargo passed away Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Villa Maria Nursing Home, Fargo.

Edith was born to Bernard and Alice (McKay) Johnson on December 29, 1923 in Sandune Township near McLeod, ND. After her education in McLeod, she took care of an invalid aunt. When she was 18 years old she moved to St. Paul, MN and worked in a bakery. She then became employed at Armour Company in South St. Paul in the canning department. She was there for 3 years. This is where she met her husband to be, Hilbert Augustine Sandvig. She moved to Fargo and began working at Dakota Paint and Glass. Edith and Hilbert were married on June 28, 1945 in Moorhead, MN. They farmed in the Sheldon area until moving into Leonard in 1975. Edith cooked at the Leonard School for 13 ½ years. She retired in 1988. Hilbert died in 1996. She has been a member of the Silver Springs Homemakers and Helendale Lutheran Church.

Dr. Dale C. Kana
Dr. Dale C. Kana, 79, of Fargo, ND, died on February 14, 2013, at Sanford Hospital, Palliative Care, Fargo.

Dale was born April 25, 1933, in Grand Forks, ND, to Lawrence and Frances (Dokken) Kana. He grew up in Grand Forks and graduated from Central High School where he earned nine letters in football, basketball and golf. He attended the University of North Dakota in the pre-med program and received his B.A. in 1956 and B.S. in Medicine in 1957. While at UND he played basketball one year and was on the golf traveling team for four years. He then attended the University of Kansas Medical School in Kansas City, Kansas, where he received his Medical Degree in 1959.

Constance Joy Ohnstad
Ohnstad, Constance Joy…loving and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away March 12, 2013, at the age of 85. Joy is survived by Mons K. Ohnstad, husband of 65 years, Moorhead, MN; Melanie Ohnstad (Philip Friedman) Minneapolis; grandson Jeffrey Garth Ohnstad Ninnemann (Karin) and great grandson Zander Ohnstad Ninnemann, Moorpark, CA; and sister Jean Nelson (Richard), Bismarck, ND.

Joy was born January 8, 1928, to Glenn and Evelyn (Garner) Bauer. She graduated with honors from Austin High School in Chicago and continued her education at Carleton College. After the war she attended St. Luke's School of Nursing in Fargo and Deaconess School of Nursing in Grand Forks earning her registered nurse degree with distinction. She married Mons in 1948. They lived in Sharon, ND, where Joy was the Director of Nursing at the Sharon Hospital.

Janice Torson
Janice Torson of Moorhead, MN passed away at Sanford Health on Thursday, April 18th. She was preceded in death by her parents James and Hazel Glasgow, and her siblings Audrey Tschache and James Glasgow Jr. She is survived by her brother Colin Glasgow, her daughters Jane Torson (Tom Reinertson) and Nancy Torson (Rick Stern), her son-in-law Terry Murphy, and her grandson Adam Torson. She was also blessed with step-grandchildren Elena (John) Dagit, Erica Stern, Ted Stern, and her great-granddaughter Lauren Dagit.

Janice was born in Barnesville, MN on September 9th, 1928, and spent summers at her family cottage on Pelican Lake. There she learned deep devotion to family and made lifelong friendships. In 1946 she graduated from Barnesville High School where she was the Homecoming Queen. She graduated from Moorhead Teachers College and married David Torson in 1950, and went on to teach school in Hillsboro and Barnesville. In later years she worked at the Midweek Eagle in West Fargo.

Betty Jean Stone
Betty Jean Stone died April 16, 2013 at Sanford Hospital, Fargo. She was born on July 23, 1923 at Barnesville, MN to David Vannet and Ethel (Reynolds) Pender. After graduating from Hawley High School, Betty moved to Seattle, WA. While working at Boeing, she met her future husband, Robert R. Stone. They were married on December 24, 1942. When the war ended they moved to Fargo, ND. In 1954, Betty began employment at ND Blue Cross Blue Shield where she worked for thirty years as a claims supervisor. She volunteered for various groups including; the American Legion Auxiliary, the VA, Meritcare Auxiliary, Elim Nursing Home and her church. Betty was an avid card and bingo player. She gave freely of her time and money to others without expecting anything in return. She will be greatly missed as a giving mother, grandmother, sibling and friend.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Violet and Evelyn; and brothers, Ellis and David. She is survived by her sons, Robert (Jan), and Bradley (Lynda) Stone; and her daughter, Barbara (Jack) Neubauer; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one great great-granddaughter.
