Otters headed to section championship game with 70-60 win
MOORHEAD – Fergus Falls forward Mike Millard was tired of hearing complaints about him never dunking in a game. With 77 seconds left in the Minnesota Class 3A, Section 8 boys basketball semifinals at the Nemzek Fieldhouse, Millard picked a good time to throw down in a game for the first time. It wasn’t flashy and it certainly wasn’t pretty, but just like the Otters’ 70-60 win over Alexandria, it got the job done.

Fergus Falls girls rely on teamwork to take 29-0 record to state tournament
Fargo The starters of Fergus Falls girls basketball team are not perfect. According to junior guard Brianna Rasmusson, she can’t work in the post. Junior guard Devonie Smith feels she isn’t the best shooter. Junior forward Anna Monke doesn’t enjoy her ball-handling skills. Senior center Hanna Swenson feels she is in no-man’s land when she’s guarding a quicker player near the 3-point arc. And junior guard Bailey Strand feels her rebounding could use some work.

Lyndon Hovland
Lyndon Delbert Hovland, 81, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at River Pointe of Moorhead Assisted Living.

Lyndon was born March 13, 1931, the son of Lloyd and Lydia (Zimmerman) Hovland in Rothsay, MN, where he grew up and graduated from high school. On July 13, 1952, Lyndon was united in marriage to LaVonne Jackson from Barnesville, MN. Shortly after their wedding they moved to Germany, where Lyndon was stationed with the US Army. In 1954, they moved to Barnesville and Lyndon began his banking career at First National Bank. In June of 1963, Lyndon and his family moved to Moorhead. At that time he joined Merchants National Bank (presently US Bank) in Fargo and was in charge of the real estate mortgage lending. He continued to work at Merchants as a Vice President in commercial lending until his retirement in 1984. After retiring from US Bank, Lyndon joined Metropolitan Federal Bank and was a Vice President in the commercial loan department. He retired again in May of 1992. Lyndon and LaVonne moved to their lake home on Lake Lida to enjoy their retirement years. In November 1992, LaVonne passed away unexpectedly.
