FARGO – A year ago, brothers Chad and Jeffrey McCracken were playing disc golf in Moorhead during a visit to see their grandparents. On Saturday, with that same Moorhead park under water, the brothers from Maple Grove, Minn., got a lesson in community service in south Fargo, tossing sandbags instead of Frisbees to help protect strangers against spring flooding.

Marvin Bossart
Marvin D. Bossart, 79, Fargo, ND, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Edgewood Vista in Fargo, ND.
Marvin D. Bossart was born on February 8, 1934, in Fargo, ND to David C. and Mabel C. Bossart. He attended Fargo Central High School, graduating in 1952. He then attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks graduating in 1956. During college Marv met the love of his life, Betty Brown of Fargo. They married on August 11, 1956 at Saint Mary’s Cathedral, Fargo. Together they moved to Evanston, Illinois where Marv attended Northwestern University at the Medill School of Journalism. He graduated from Northwestern in 1958 with a Masters Degree in journalism. While attending Northwestern, he worked alongside radio personality Paul Harvey, writing news. Marv and Betty moved back to Fargo later in 1958 when he began his career in broadcast journalism at WDAY television and radio. In 1963, after five years working as a reporter in the field, WDAY-TV recognized his talents and passion for broadcasting, and he became the newscaster for the 6 and 10 o’clock newscasts. His broadcast career spanned more than four decades. Marv anchored the news until his retirement in 2000.
