Soccer referee punched by player in Utah dies
MURRAY, Utah – A 46-year-old soccer referee who was punched by a teenage player during a game and later slipped into a coma has died, police said. Ricardo Portillo of Salt Lake City passed away at the hospital, where he was being treated following the assault last weekend, Unified police spokesman Justin Hoyal said Saturday night.

Juel "Lud" Robert Mattson
Juel "Lud" Robert Mattson was born October 2, 1954 in Park River, ND to D. Kenneth and Marilynn Mattson. Juel died peacefully in his home in Detroit Lakes, MN on May 2, 2013.

D. Kenneth Mattson and his family moved to Mahnomen in 1955, where Juel attended Mahnomen Public Schools. Juel graduated from Mahnomen High School in 1973. He attended Northland Community College in Thief River Falls, MN for medical technician. Juel also received his EMT certificate in 1978. While in high school Juel was employed by Mahnomen Dairy, making milk deliveries to homes around Mahnomen and also worked for Jack's Motor Sports. After obtaining his education as a medical technician and EMT, Juel spent many years dedicated to serving others while employed at United Hospital Ambulance Service; Norman County Ambulance; Polk County Ambulance; Wimmer Hospital, Ada, MN; Mahnomen County and Village Hospital; St. Luke's Hospital, Crosby, ND; Merit Care Hospital, Fargo, ND; Norman County Implement; truck driver for the Fargo Forum; REM-Northstar; the Treatment Center and Aldor Homes in Crookston, MN; Concordia College, Moorhead, MN; and several years driving beet truck for many farmers surrounding Ada, MN.

The Sioux Falls (S.D.)
