Luella Wefel, 98, Wahpeton, ND, died December 26, 2012 at St. Francis Healthcare Campus, Breckenridge, MN. The Funeral Service will be at 2:30 PM, Sunday, December 30, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, with Rev. Morris Stephens Jr., officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, from 2 PM to 4 PM with a 4 PM Prayer Service, at the Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton and one hour before the service at the church on Sunday. Interment will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton.

Luella Marie Muehler was born November 7, 1914, to Henry and Anna (Laboda) Muehler near Great Bend, ND. The family later moved to a farm in Ibsen Township. On November 2, 1944, she married Orville Wefel. The couple farmed in Mooreton Township until 1974 when they moved to Wahpeton. Orville died August 8, 2008, Luella moved into St. Francis Healthcare Campus -Home in March 2007.

Dorothy Elvina Heglie, 96, of Fargo, passed away with family by her side, on Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at Bethany on University in Fargo, North Dakota.

Dorothy was born December 30, 1915 in Christine, N.D.to Nels and Ellen Nellermoe. She was the last surviving sibling of eleven children. She grew up in Christine, graduating from Christine high school, playing church organ, teaching Sunday School, playing piano in a dance band and spending time with her large family.

Clarine A. Lian, 83, Grand Forks, North Dakota, died Monday, December 24, 2012 in HCR Manor Care, Fargo, North Dakota.

Clarine A. Dahlen, was born to Elling and Amalia (Midtmoen) Dahlen on March 16, 1929 at Dahlen, North Dakota. She grew up and attended school at Dahlen and graduated from Dahlen High School. She attended Mayville Teachers College and then taught in rural country schools. Clarine and Glenn M. Lian were united in marriage on June 3, 1951 at Dahlen. They lived in Dahlen, then moved to Mountain, ND, and Cavalier, ND prior to moving to Grand Forks in 1966. She was employed as a teacher’s aide at Kelly Elementary School for many years. Clarine was employed by Goldmark Properties from 1985 until she retired in 1995.

Norval Lien
Norval Lien passed away on December 21, 2012 at Villa Maria nursing home in Fargo.

Norval was born February 5, 1920 near Erie, MN, the son of Nils and Annetta Lien. He grew up in the Cottonwood, MN area, attended rural school and moved with the family to rural Montevideo in 1940. Based at Bergstrom Field at Austin, TX, he served with the US Air Force from 1942-1945. In 1946 he was united in marriage to June Brusven at Cottonwood, MN. In 1958 he was united in marriage to Grace Kelly at Portland, ND, where he was engaged in plumbing and trenching until 1968. From that time until his retirement he lived in Moorhead, MN and was employed by the US Postal Service as a Star Route Mail contractor. In his retirement he enjoyed spending time with friends and family in Wellton, AZ and Montevideo, MN. Among his many interests were gardening, fishing and reading.

Luella was born on June 30, 1917 at Pelican Rapids, MN to Ulrich and Evabelle (Ballard) Senn. She was the youngest of six children. She grew up and attended school there. Luella married Ellis James Thomas in November of 1934. They farmed at Vergas, MN and then Frazee, MN before moving to Arthur, ND. In 1983, they retired and moved to Fargo.

Chester Allen Jensen, 94, died December 23, 2012 in Fargo, ND.

Chester Allen Jensen was born December 28, 1917 in McIntosh, MN to Arthur and Mabel Alrick Jensen. He attended grade school in Winger, MN and in 1937 graduated from high school in McIntosh, MN. In October 1940 he enlisted in the National Guard at Crookston, MN and was activated into the U.S. Army in February 1941. During his tenure, he rose from the rank of Private to First Lieutenant. While in the European theater, he served with the 3rd Army as part of the 5th Infantry Division. Most of his duties were involved in reconnaissance work from the region of Normandy to Czechoslovakia. He was awarded the bronze star and discharged with honor on January 15, 1946.

Daniel Zieske, 79, Arthur, ND died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012 at his home surrounded by family.

Daniel Wilbert Zieske was born Nov. 15, 1933 at Amenia, ND to George and Ella (Garske) Zieske. He grew up on the family farm near Amenia and graduated from Amenia High School in 1951. He enlisted in the US Navy and served in the Philippines. Upon returning to the area, he farmed and worked construction. Dan married Bonnie Grieger Sept. 13, 1968 at Sisseton, SD. They made their home in West Fargo. They lived in Edinburg, ND for 2 years before settling in Arthur where they raised four children and have resided since. He worked for Carpenters Local 1176 for 50 years. He worked at several large commercial projects in ND and MN including malting plants and western ND power houses.
