Areavoices: Making recycled art for a good cause
Each year, our local Habitat for Humanity puts on a recycled art show, called “Home is Where the Art Is." Artists from around the area volunteer and are given a voucher to purchase materials from the Restore to create a piece of art that will be auctioned at the show.

Jolene Kay Lande, 30, of Mayville, ND currently residing in Chicago, IL passed away on Wednesday January 9, 2013.

Jolene was born with her twin sister Jennifer on July 31, 1982 to Richard and Carol Lande of Mayville, ND. Jolene was a member of Mayville Lutheran Church, and she was a 2001 graduate of MayPort CG School. Jolene worked as a CNA at Luther Memorial Home for many years where she was nominated for numerous caregiver awards. She attended Northwest Tech College and worked at Valley 4000 in Grand Forks with her twin sister. Jolene was a right hand to her father with Lande & Associates and had a passion for auctions.

Emma Schrader
Emma J. Schrader, age 82, of Carrington, ND, died Saturday, January 5, 2013, at Carrington Health Center, Carrington, ND.

Emma Jane Konok was born on August 15, 1930, in Carrington, ND to John and Bessie (Jones) Konok. The family moved to Pingree, ND and later back to Carrington where Emma finished school and graduated in 1948. After graduation, she moved to Minneapolis to care for her nephew. Emma then moved to California to care for her young cousin before returning to Carrington. She provided child-care for many families in the community and worked as a housekeeper. Emma also assisted Lonnie with custodial work at the Chieftain in Carrington.
