Ronald “Butch” Balzum
Ronald “Butch” Balzum, 80, Ada, Minnesota, died Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at Benedictine Care Community, Ada.

Ronald Eugene was born at home, near Ada, on April 22, 1933, to Robert and Mabel (Pinske) Balzum. He attended Ada High School and later worked for Kitchell Farms near Ada. Ronald was united in marriage to Florence Aarestad on September 30, 1955, at Lockhart, MN. They made their home in Ada and over the years he worked for Ada Feed & Seed, Great Plains Lumber, and the Ada Elementary School. In 1982, Ronald and Florence established F & R Floral, with their daughter Tammy. He operated the flower shop for many years along with an assortment of other jobs until retiring in 2006. Ronald enjoyed fishing and hunting, and spending time with his family and many friends over coffee. Ronald is survived by his wife, Florence, daughters: Shirley Riley, Tamara (Bruce) Sargent, both of Ada, sons: Richard (Scott Eastvold) Balzum, Buffalo, MN, Stacey Balzum, Ada, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one brother: Robert (Shelbe) Balzum, Young America, MN, one sister: Beverly (Ralph) Valdes, Cape Coral, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mabel, and a great granddaughter, June Rudd.

Darlene Ness
Darlene Ann Ness, 85, passed away peacefully on January 15th 2014 surrounded by her family under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley in Moorhead, MN.

Darlene Ann Driscoll was born November 5th, 1928 in Glyndon, MN to Charles and Barbara Driscoll. Darlene was raised on the Driscoll Family Farm just outside of Glyndon, MN. She attended and graduated from Glyndon High School in 1946. She then attended and graduated from Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND. After graduating, she started her career at The Bell Telephone Company in Fargo. Darlene married Milton Ness on April 19th, 1949 and they began their life together. Milton's employment took them to many places including California, South Dakota, Rochester and Dilworth MN. They settled in Moorhead, MN in 1966 where they would raise their three children, Greg, Steve, and Kelli.

Phyllis A. Griebstein was born on May 17, 1924 to William and Genevieve (Bentley) Griebstein in Arthur, ND. She grew up on a farm and attended school in the Arthur area. She then received a teacher’s certificate from Moorhead Teacher’s College. Phyllis married Edward Power on June 26, 1945 in Page, ND. They made their home near Arthur, where they farmed and raised their family.
