Duane Schwandt
Duane Ervin Schwandt, 86, Frazee, MN, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2013 at home. He was born on July 24, 1927 in Hillsboro, ND to Theresa Bierman. She later married Reinhart Schwandt. The family moved to Minnesota to a farm near Vergas in 1936.

In 1945, Duane enlisted in the Marines. He was discharged to inactive duty in 1948. In 1950, he was called to active duty and served in the Korean Conflict until his release in 1952. He was discharged to inactive duty in 1953.

Adam James Blake
Sergeant Adam James Blake, son of the late Eileen (Steuber) Blake Brown, was born March 9, 1989 in Wadena, MN and passed away on September 28, 2013 in Fargo, ND. Adam graduated from Moorhead High School in 2007. After graduation, Adam enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton, CA. He continued his training at Pensacola, FL and Cherry Point Air Station, NC. He was stationed in Kaneohe Bay, HI, and served in Afghanistan as an Advanced Aircraft Communications and Navigation Systems Technician and Combat Marksmanship Coach. He was honorably discharged in June 2012. Adam enjoyed scuba diving, archery, hunting, skydiving, and snowboarding. Adam will be remembered for his smile, spontaneity, and sense of adventure.

He was preceded in death by mother and grandfather, Oscar Steuber.

Harry O’Neil, Jr.
Harry O’Neil, Jr., Moorhead, MN, died on September 19, 2013, in Sanford Health Palliative Care, Fargo, ND.

Harry O’Neil, Jr. was born on March 21, 1928, in Moorhead MN to Harry and Eva (Rehn) O’Neil. He grew up and attended school in Moorhead, graduating from Moorhead High School in 1947. Harry worked for Meinecke Johnson Construction and then joined the U.S. Navy, serving in Korea on the USS Seminole. He married Rosella “Rusty” Strander and they had two children, Kim and Kevin. Together they lived in Mt Clemens, Michigan, and he worked for Western Electric as an installer. After moving to Moorhead, Rosella died on October 15, 1959. He later married Corrine Klabo who died September 5, 1987. He retired from Western Electric in 1984. Harry married Beverly Beyer October 26, 1991.

Charles A. (Chuck) Schneider, 71, rural Hawley, MN, died on September 20, 2013, in Avon, Colorado.

Chuck was born on March 24, 1942, in Breckenridge, MN, to Edwin and Dorothy (Fletcher) Schneider. He grew up and attended school there, graduating from Breckenridge High School in 1960. He served in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Goldsboro, NC. Chuck married Diane Leinen on June 20, 1965, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Wahpeton, ND. They made their home in Wahpeton and he attended the North Dakota State College of Science.

Colleen L. Johnson
Colleen Johnson, 75, of East Grand Forks, MN died Sunday, August 18, 2013. Colleen was born January 13, 1938 in Twin Valley, MN the daughter of Oscar and Stella (Ness) Johnson. She grew up in East Grand Forks graduating from EGF Senior High School and attended Akers Business College in Grand Forks. She worked 45 years at Home of Economy as a bookkeeper and was a choir member at Our Savior’s Church in EGF for 50 years.

Survivors include her sister Shirley Peters, Oakes, ND, and brother Oscar “Bud” (Diane) Johnson, Fargo, ND. She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Evelyn Mahle, Dorothy Strommen and Violet Johnson and brother Merelyn Johnson.

Lloyd M. Haug
Lloyd M. Haug, age 79 of Grafton, ND, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton.

Lloyd M. Haug was born August 6, 1934 in Grafton, ND, the son of the late Lewis and Martha (Sondeland) Haug. He grew up and attended rural school in Martin Township. Following his education, he began farming with his dad and uncles. He enlisted in the Army along with his friends Bob Coulthart and Norman Haug in November of 1956. While in the Army, he served in Korea for 16 months and drove a Deuce & ½ truck. He returned home in November of 1958 and served in the National Guard for 2 years. Upon completion of his military service, he worked at Lockwood Graders where he loaded railroad cars and later worked at Grafton Implement. He was united in marriage to Diane Gjevre on August 25, 1962 in Grafton, ND. He worked as a machinist for Grafton Auto Electric from 1966 until retiring in 1999. He also farmed from 1972 until 2009. After his retirement, he drove beet truck and rotobeeter for several years. His wife Diane passed away in 1994.

Doris Alice Johnson was born October 30, 1930, to Carl and Alice (Benson) Johnson in Fargo. She was a graduate of Fargo Central High School. She was married to Wayne L. Allen on August 10, 1957, and they made their home in Fargo, where they lived until moving to Des Moines, IA, in 1988. Her husband, Wayne, died in 2005.
