A 7½-foot-high safety pin that looks like a modern sculpture actually is a floor lamp made in 1975 by modern artist Yonel Lebovici (1937-98). In the 1960s, he started making very unusual lamps and other items inspired by everyday objects. His marketing ideas were unusual for an artist at the time.

Myrtle V. Kuehn,
Myrtle V. Kuehn, 97, died at Sanford Palliative Care on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 from complications from a stroke. She was a loving mother and mother-in-law, and will be deeply missed.
Myrtle Victoria Barsness was born on December 30, 1915 to Carl and Betsy (Lerdahl) Barsness, in Cyrus, MN. She grew up in Cyress and attended school through the 11th grade. Myrtle married Ervin L. Kuehn on May 12, 1940 in Cyress. They had two sons, Gerald (Jerry) and James.

Faith A. Barnes, 16, of Fargo, ND, died Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Essentia Health in Fargo.
Faith Ann Barnes was born June 12, 1996, in Fargo, the daughter of Stephen and Maria (Weiss) Barnes. She was currently a junior at Fargo North High School. Faith loved music, enjoyed playing the piano, guitar and violin and recently started writing her own music. She also enjoyed the outdoors, spending time with friends, family and her dog, Brandy.

Maxine "Max" Tyler, of Fargo, ND, passed away peacefully Monday, April 29, 2013 at Rosewood on Broadway, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. She was 85 years old.
Maxine Norma was born on March 15, 1928 to Oscar and Anna (Jung) Johnson on the family farm near Osakis, MN. Maxine was 3 when her father died suddenly. Her family then moved to town where she attended school. As a teenager they relocated to Minneapolis where she graduated from Marshall High School in 1946.

Ester Sexhus
Ester Sexhus, 108, of Cando formerly of rural Leeds, died Saturday, April 27, 2013 at the Towner County Living Center in Cando.
Ester Henrietta Emelia (Ahlberg) Sexhus was born March 15, 1905 at home in Springfield Township north of Leeds, ND, to David and Emelia (Nilson) Ahlberg. She lived on the farm until the family moved to Seattle, WA in 1918. Ester attended high school there and following graduation in 1922 from Lincoln High School, she came home to the farm. After attending Valley City Normal College, Ester returned to the Ahlberg home and taught grades 1 thru 8 at the Wheatland Country School for eight years. Ester and Sanford Sexhus were married January 26, 1939 at Leeds. The couple lived and farmed the Sexhus Homestead rural Leeds. Following Sanford’s death on January 1, 1993, Ester lived on the farm until moving to the Towner County Living Center at Cando in 2008.
